I remember playing "Sunday Kind of Love", the Harptones version, and
getting not much of a reaction. I was thinking "nothing!??!" because
that song hit me like a ton of bricks. Oh well, eh?

Pretty much the same here. She liked the 60s and 70s stuff I played a lot
more. She was crazy about "Higher And Higher" by Jackie Wilson for a while,
I remember, and "Brick House" by The Commodores, and "634-5789" by Wilson
Pickett.
Ironically, my daughter would react negatively or not at all to 50s (or
earlier) songs I played, but then if she heard them later on in a movie she
would decide she liked them. This happened, for example, with Skip James'
1931 classic "Devil Got My Woman." Had no use for it until it was featured
in the movie "Ghost World," then all of a sudden she liked it. Probably
doesn't even remember it now.
