Well, Shazam says they are--Andrea Litkei and Ervin Litkei. The melody
is reminiscent of the Russian folk song "Meadowlands." What TV show was
playing this? It's fairly awful.

The song and album (released 2017) is on sale at Amazon.
The artist credited is:
Andrea Litkei, Ervin Litkei & Bear Cat Phillips

Google tells us the song can be heard all over the Internet,
including Spotify and (loudly) at this site:
https://www.boomplay.com/songs/9366051?from=

I kinda like this recording, and, no kidding, it sounds 'Russian'...

For an R&B sounding track from the album, try:
Too Late For Tears
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5mxjLyjiFE
slightly reminiscent of 50s Sam Cooke soul, yes?

Well, at least we agree, Diane, on the Russian influence :-)

Right, I know how to Shazam and Google too - what you've provided is lazy research so far, I think we need to dig deeper....Litkei (who was Hungarian!) and his wife were nothing close to R&B or doo-wop songwriters I believe, and I don't know Ervin to be a singer....it is possible they wrote the song (likely own the publishing more than anything) - sure - but there should be a label or release I would think - otherwise I don't think we've identified the artist or year on this one at all....it was featured at the end of the most recent episode of "What We Do In The Shadows"

Shazam only identifies that actual recording, not the songwriters or anything else. Be glad she took the time to answer you, you fucking ingrate. And he does sing. You would know that if your research wasn't so fucking lazy.

Don't worry Dennis - I expected it from Bruce before I started the thread....he gets that way when he doesn't have an answer....Bruce, your anger issues still persist after all these years - check yourself brother - it's just a question about a song.....Since I'm a capable person, I already found the answers Diane and RWC provided - but that's not the answers, clearly- so I came here.....because I had hopes for answers, not anger....

I never even read the thread before you already had your answer from Diane. Shazam only identifies tracks that are already on various sites, it doesn't make up names of acts based on songwriting or any other factors.

The artists listed can be correct, and they are correct. And there doesn't have to be a label or release on a song from a soundtrack. It could just be recorded for that TV show and never released otherwise. Happens all the time.

I don't understand why "that's not the answers, clearly." It's not an
authentic 1950s or 60s record. I can tell that from the arrangement,
the production. Why are you so sure these 2 people can't be the artists?

By the way, Ervin can be the artist and maybe not the singer. Richard Carpenter was the artists on the Carpenters hits although he did not sing much or not at all on some of the hits. Ervin may b playing an instrument while other people sang along with Andrea.

That's when it was released, but Ervin Litkei died in 2000 so it must
have been recorded earlier.
There's a Wikipedia page for Ervin Litkei. He was mainly a classical
music composer but he also owned several record and sheet music
companies. This recording might have been a "101 Strings" type item,
something recorded by anonymous studio musicians and put out under the
Litkeis' names.

According to the only review for the album at Amazon it's
possible, perhaps even likely, that Sonic is correct about the
recording not being by the Litkeis.

= - = - Begin quote - = - =
What is the deal with this album??? All these varied songs are done by
different artists and are different recordings but they're all
attributed to "Andrea Litkei & Ervin Litkei"??? "The Devil Caught Me
Nappin'" was sung by Marilyn Brown back last century! This is cultural
appropriation. Not to mention "Porque No Me Besas".

Thanks Ken, I'm pretty sure I'm right...but with such an obscurity and little to go on, it will likely remain a mystery for now....I'm pretty sure the Litkei's involvement was the publishing and it's possible this song has been in the can for all this time....artists unknown....
