EXTINCTION: Number One R&B Songs of the 1950s

[The Bloomfield Buddy]

EXTINCTION: Number One R&B Songs of the 1950s - Included on the list
is every song that got to number one on any of Billboard's R&B Charts
during the 50s. This includes the Sales Chart, the Jukebox chart or
the DJ chart. Same rules as the last contest. Each poster can knock
out one song every day. The day starts and ends at midnight eastern
time.

This will be torture for most everybody, as most of us will find it
very difficult to get rid of most of the records here. Of course
Scarlotti and Sharx will squeal with delight as they shitcan the
"ghetto dreck," but they will soon be frustrated as for every record
they can delete, there are dozens more still there. For them it will
be like giving a tic tac to a whale. There are 158 songs in all.

Thank you. It gives us all something to do in the group every day in
between each round of Roger's battles. It also gives each individual a
certain power, not to decide what wins, but to veto anything they
don't want to see win. It's interesting which items survive all of
that. Looks like everyone pretty much agrees that "Sixteen Tons" is a
great record, although it's probably not close to being any one
person's favorite record of the decade. and seems that nobody dislikes
it.

No I didn't know that even tho the Boston outrage made all the front
pages and led the TV and radio news over here for days. Fortunately
the London marathon went off successfully last Sunday---it was a nice
touch for all the competitors to wear a black ribbon to honor the
Boston dead and injured. And an even nicer touch for several
competitors who survived the Boston race to fly over here and take
part in the London event.

BTW you'll be sorry you mentioned Neil Diamond :)

He may well be gracing the NEXT contest.

Yes, Ivory Joe's early ballads were weak. "I Almost Lost My Mind" is
MUCH better by Boone IMO. "I Need You So" much better by the Orioles.

Diane had never heard Clyde's version before. It was the hit in a lot
of markets outisde of NY and Philly. It's clearly nowhere near as good
as the Lee Andrews.
