Do you happen to know why the Jesters even recorded that song?
The first generation of doo-wop collectors had created a demand for
the Diablos' original. Unfortunately, Devora Brown at Fortune Records
refused to lease out the master for reissue. So the Jesters were
recruited to wax a note-for-note re-do of the Diablos' track. Or to
put it bluntly, the first generation of doo-wop enthusiasts had to
*settle for* the Jesters because the Diablos' record was unavailable.
That tells me all I need to know about which version of "The Wind" is
definitive.
