Holy shit! How did such a great record get overlooked so long? The only thing that would hold it back is if I nominated it. Good luck, Rick.

This is THE side of their single for me!!! Their original "Little
Darlin'" "A" side is pretty mundane (and done much better in the
sparkling Diamonds hit cover).

I rate the wonderful "Sweetheart..." a "9" so you are pretty certain

"Billy Guitar" was a Canadian native real name Hank Noble who was also
a DJ in Toronto. "Here Comes The Night" was originally recorded for
Apex in Canada and released in 1957.

The 1958 US Decca release (itself leased from Apex AFAIK tho the label
gives no credit) is a supposedly slightly different version. I have an
mp3 that is allegedly the original Apex version but I don't hear any
difference.

Has anyone got anything more definite on this?

Belated apologies from me on this one---that was accidentally included
in TWO yearly Battles. Of course it belonged in the 1957 Battle but it
was erroneously also incuded in the 1958 edition.

I was the one who voted for the loser, which sort of surprises me since "At My Front Door" is such
a great song. I didn't remember "Count Every Star," so I just listened to it. It's also a great
song, and I'd probably vote for either song depending on the day.

The 1956 Battles were not conducted via Marc's website, so I don't have the individual votes, but

"Love You Baby" is merely a 1962 Kent reissue of the 1952 Modern
"Good Lovin'" 78 (don't think it was ever a 45rpm)---albeit overdubbed
with horns etc. Neither release was in any of the yearly Battles.

Beaking????? :)
Should be Breakin', per the video.
And of course the writer is not R. Warren but Robert Johnson.
And this will make Roger squirm, but...I have to say I like the
rocked-up 1970s version of this song by the Rolling Stones.

OK but it's not on the most recent listings of records used.

One half of one of the most famous DOUBLE-covers of all time!

Most know the famous story.....

Pending an anticipated closure of his then-current contract Bobby
Darin's original of "Early In The Morning"/"Now We're One" was
recorded for Brunswick just before "Splish Splash" became a totally
unexpected huge hit and sealed his tenure with Atco who promptly shut
down Brunswick releasing material by their star. Not to be outdone
Brunswick's parent Coral rushed Buddy Holly into the studio to cover
both sides of the Darin single.

And I'm sad to say I never cared for "Now We're One" in either version
