He was only 62, huh? Same age as my father when he succumbed to lung

Thanks again, dad, for telling me you'd kick my ass if you ever caught

Fair question Jim and I will answer: right in the ideal but wrong
in the practice!!

First of all, Fred never EVER let you know who the rights advocate
was!!! He also cloaked himself in the politically easy raiments of
the times wheher it was Betty Harris, Betty Levette, of old Black
Betty Bam da Lam !!!!!`

I mean.....where was Freddie Fairplay when Stan Polley was ripping
off Lou Christie and Badfinger directly causing the suicides of Pete
Ham and Tom Evans? Fred always came off as too much of an elitist punk
to be a truly altruistic force out there in society and his misogeny
was plainly exposed when he repeatedly jerked around Dianne on these
boards.

I didn't realize until the obituary that he had been married to
darling Teri only 14 years meaning that there are one or two ex wives
out there who got tired of his shit and skedaddled. It makes sense
now, with that Terri and her ditzy little "celebrating" book campaign
whose sales probably cost the ecosystem only two poplars and a small
shrub in pulp production. She was obviously a trophy wife clutching
to her atrophy husband for his lawyerly status and his supposed
exalted advocate status!!!!

So Jimmy, my answer is that Freddie was a fraud. He utilized the
advocate and victim zeitgeist of the time to present an outward
appearence of civic chivalry. He never really tilted against a
windmill in his life and it's a good thing. He would have choked on
the toxic hot air blowing back, baby!!!!

I was the one who put Betty Harris in touch with Fred. Thanks to his
efforts, Betty now owns all of her Sansu masters, one of which is
being used in an upcoming Hollywood film. I don't know how much Betty
was paid for the song, but I guarantee you it's more than she ever
made off any of her recordings back in the '60s. And by the way, Fred
never charged her a penny for his work on her behalf. (I can already
hear the snotty replies: "That's 'cuz Fred's work wasn't worth a
penny!")

And I'm quite certain Betty has a much higher opinion of herself than
as being one of "the politically easy raiments of the times," whatever
the fuck that means. As usual, Dennis, your incoherent babbling
obscured whatever point you thought you were making.

Incoherent is: "You were are good man Fred RIP your friend"

Betty Harris has no more business owning her recording masters than
Doug Peneny does owning a Pulitzer in literature, baby!!!!

It took the herculean efforts of Arthur Alexander, Bert Berns, Alan
Touissant, and others to establish the"dime a dozen" vocalist that was
Ms Harris into the artist that she was !!!!

She has again further benefited from the "look at me" meliorists of
the world like Fred Wilhelms to make that almighty civlilly righteous
stand and help this poor hapless soul. Wilhelms took on these called
plight of the tread upon black female artists in an era whre it
professionally aggrandizing to do so. It was a politcal slam dunk,
baby!! Nobody dare broach any opposition to Freddie's crusade for
fear of being labeled backward and bigoted!!!

That's what I mean by Freddie being swaddled in politically safe
raiment!! Hell his was an impenatrable suit of cultural armor,
baby!!!

Why don't we call him a glorified charity case worker and let it go
at that !!! He wasn't so much an advocate for artists as he was for
artifice..................................his own!!!!

Those with photos are: Frankie Laine, Bobby Darin, Pat Boone, Crystal
Gayle, Johnnie Ray, Georgia Gibbs, Kay Starr, Connie Francis, and
Elvis Presley.

Btw: It's got nothing to do with popularity. Facebook pulls the
photos from Wikipedia articles on the artists. Wiki watchdogs remove
any photos where the rights to use them have not been supplied by the
author. In other words, the Howlin' Wolf photo appears because it has
been shown to be in public domain.

Huh?

You've got that ass backwards, son.

Dennis made Fred look like a buffoon. One of the best was when he said
that Teri was writing a sequel to her book "Celebrating Mothers." The
sequel was inspired by Fred, and was called "Celebrating
Motherfuckers."

That's been my main concern throughout this affair.

Whatever negative feelings people here have for Fred, he brought them
on himself. But his family had nothing to do with it, so I sincerely
hope none of those people learn of what's been going on around these
parts. Talk about kicking people when they're down!

I've been away for a week and came home to find this group had hit a
new low, which given some of our previous lows had not seem possible.
Bad enough was Scarlotti's childish attempt to mock Roger's contests
("You're ugly!" "No, you're ugly!"), and the fact that usually sensible
people like Marc and Frank played along with this vindictive nastiness
only proves that vanity makes old men stupid. Much worse, of course,
was the vile dance of the ghouls brought on by Fred's death. Except for
Marc's too-mild complaint, I found no one speaking up for ordinary
decency until you finally said something yesterday. So thanks for that.
The desecration of Fred's memorial site is the most despicable thing
I've ever seen from members of this group, and the absence of strong
protest from other people is possibly the most cowardly.

There's been a lot of self-justifying talk in the past about how you
act on the Usenet doesn't have anything to do with what you're really
like. It's bullshit. If you're a prick on Usenet, you're a prick,
period.

Special note to Roger: I strongly suggest you suspend the current
contest for a couple of weeks. It has the potential to be the best
contest yet, but right now it seems like bringing flowers into a sewer.

No, the most cowardly would be the absence of you and others in not
protesting some of the shit that Fred pulled with Diane. In that case
a living breathing person who was aware of the abuse was being
affected. In the case of things posted on Fred's obit site, there's
nothing there that anybody who is not part of this group would be
aware of being anything but a tribute to Fred.

All that is there is a couple of pictures of people telling Fred to
RIP. The worst that could happen to any of Fred's relatives is that
they look at the picture of Doug and wonder how he ever got so ugly.

You and several others here were all afraid to tell Fred off in

He's saying that while Fred may have been a prick in real life, you
shouldn't take it out on his family members (by posting joke pictures

Of course he's got to stretch that sentence out into a lengthy

Guilty as charged Mark. However my motives for "entering" have nothing
to do with Mike's so called vindictive nastiness.
That phrase or one like it never entered my mind.

Not sure if you participated in Bruce's dogshit contest, but wouldn't
you consider that "vindictive nastiness" as well, since it was obviously
a dig at the music Mike so cherishes.

In fact, if you've read his thread about the photo contest, I suggested
to Mike that anyone who has not volunteered to be in it should be
respected and their pic should be eliminated.

A stupid old man? Well, shortly I'll be 69 so mea culpa on that...but

Nor should it.

As you may recall, this contest originated on the spur of the moment
as a joke reponse to Doug's asking me why I wanted to see a picture of

Admittedly, Bill, I was one of the people who accused you of that; but
in this case, we actually agree.

When my father died in 1998, the last thing I'd have wanted (or
needed) was someone to remind me that he had been an abusive drunk for
the first 15 years of my life. I was painfully aware of that fact
already, and would have been sorely tempted to punch out anyone who
had said such a thing to me. Thankfully, my friends and relatives
behaved like the grown-ups they were.

I was hesitant to say anything because I'm not exactly a blushing
virgin when it comes to breaches of Netiquette.

But to reiterate my original point: all of this caterwauling about
Fred has absolutely no effect on the man himself as he has now
shuffled off this mortal coil. His family, however, is still drawing
breath and presumably are in the throes of their grief. And the last
thing those poor people need is to come across this newsgroup and read
all this mean-spirited crap.

No one is good-looking after 50 unless they have access to Hollywood
plastic surgeons. And after 60, as you can see in the tabloids at

I have to agree. Eveyone takes things way too seriously here.
Freddie's dead and so will we all be soon enough.

I know you're an extremely good-natured guy, Frank, but despite what
Mike says, he has never been the victim here.

Thanks Mark, and I can't remember specifically Mike claiming he's a
victim, and if he has, he had to be facetious since he gives at least as
good as he gets and often instigates for no other reason than that he
can.

You're right, Frank

Bob has accused me of this in the past. Perhaps Mark is confusing
Bob's flights of fancy with reality.

The last time this came up, I replied (tongue-sort-of-in-cheek), that
I think of myself more along the lines of a martyr.

I have exchanged e-mails with Roger and am now convinced the contest
should not be disrupted by other things.

Maybe we can get back to talking about music now?

Yes!!! The contest is only sane thing that's gone on here lately.

No, Mark. I'm using this to set the record straight. I've challenged
Bruce to produce some of those terrible posts and he has backed down.
Diane isn't as innocent as she like everyone to believe. IMO anyone
that lets any of these posts make their life "miserable" needs mental
help. I'd really like to know what the purpose of Diane's "I'm the
fuck out of here" was about. Instead of pulling Bruce up she has over
the years sunk to his level. You think she finds it offensive with
Bruce's use of cunt hair as a measuring stick?

Not youthful but you can still be good looking relative to your age.
Looking at this picture http://history-of-rock.com/beanie.jpg Bruce is
looks to be an ugly 70 year old. The kicker is in the picture he was
only about 50. God only knows what he'll look like at 70 assuming he
makes it that long. If there was true justice in this world the EPA
would cite him for visual pollution, fine him and make put a bag over
his head.

Sorry, Doug, this won't wash. If you cared about Fred at all, or just
common decency, you wouldn't be restarting old wars now. As I told
Bruce, using what you consider someone else's offenses to justify your
own is just ugly rationalization.

You are entitled to whatever opinion you like but facts are stubborn
things. A Johnny Cash sang "I Was there When it Happened." Diane's
has the nerve to whine about people's defense of Fred when it was her
boyfriend who started the latest round. I don't see her protesting
Bruce's inclusion of her pissing on Fred's grave either. For whatever
reason some around here think Diane is a victim that should get free
pass even though her hands aren't clean.

I was also there at the time, and on the receiving end (entirely
unprovoked) of Fred's abuse. I don't know why Fred suddenly went off
the deep end like he did. But there's no denying the fact that he was
lashing out at everyone -- friend and foe alike. Maybe that's when he
first found out about his illness. Maybe he had other problems going
on in his life at the time. I don't know, but I can overlook (though
not forget or completely forgive) it on the basis of his previous
conduct here which was always exemplary, even when dealing with trolls
like (we all know who I mean). You, on the other hand, have always
been a deceitful, slanderous, vindictive, quarrelsome s.o.b. (first
class), and your current attacks on Diane (allegedly in Fred's memory)
are as transparent as a midtown koorvah's negligee.

The above post allegedly, but not really signed by me, and ending with
that word "negligee" is actually a post by the imposter-charlatan
Michael Punk-Rodent, a.k.a. Pendragon (Scarlotti). Don't believe me?
Look at the actual email address? It is stargazer276(AT)gmail.com,
not mine, which is stargazer267(AT)gmail.com. He's hoping there's
some Mr. Magoos among you he can make a fool of in my name. If this is
not enough to make you want to killfile "Stargazer 267" (notice the
capital "S" and the space in the handle or nickname, which also
differentiates from my email (I do not use a handle or "pen-name" here
anyway right now) with a lower case "s" and NO space prior to the
numeral section, as such: "stargazer267(AT)gmail.com, then I guess you
just want to waste your own time.
