Being a creature of habit I have stuck with Google for the (now down to) four newsgroups I semi-frequent. Today I was involuntarily moved to the NEW Google Groups. Another example of: change is not necessarily better. I think this designer was fired by Zuckerburg after one of the 62 FB upgrades!

Yes, I agree. It blows. You can't even see who made the latest post in each thread. And it takes much longer to pull up the group when you go to it.

I don't see much difference over here. I can see who made the last
post in each thread and there is no discernible difference in "pull
up" time

Is this the screen that you get?

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1950s

It only tells you who started the thread and how long it's been since the last post. It doesn't tell you who made that last post. It laso fucks up the spelling when you quote someone in a reply (see above). An apostrophe always shows as ' when quoted from the post that you are replying to.

I see part of the problem but even with the "=" taken out in the word
"pop" as it appears in your link it still comes up "no results found"

I tried the new Google Groups for exactly one day before I switched
back to the older design.

I don't think you can go back to the older design anymore.

Okay, I figured out how to get back there.

You have to hit "set as default" and they give you the option to go
back to the old version.

Here's one for ya.....see if you remember Johnny Quick.

Quickie was a late 40's-early 50's superhero from DC Comics whose big
attribute was---surprise!----super speed (just like The Flash)

Like most colorful superheroes of the time he had a mundane everyday
Joe identity and only became transformed into Quickie when he---and
I'm not making this up,honest---loudly recited this damn MATHEMATICAL
FORMULA!!

"3X2(9YZ)4A"

(Naturally I had to look that up)

Depends on whether it's the Pat Boone or Little Richard version. You

No, that would be a case of whether it makes a pleasing sound (Mr.
Boone's record) or a grating one (Little Dick's).

Logging in to Google Groups for the first time in a while, everything is now

How can I change it back to English.

Tell me about it.

I had a HUGE collection back in the day since I lived midway between a
huge magazine distributor and the big Miller Comics warehouse both of
which sold off their old issues for like a penny each so that took
care of the UK comics. Plus I lived in the tough London docks area
where American comics were plentiful and cheap since they often came
in as ballast on boats from the US (eat your heart out!)

Getting this back on topic (!) those docks and those American ships
were also the source for the US label records that flooded the local
flea markets and which all helped a local youngster get hip to what
was happening stateside. My experience here mirrors that of Messrs
Lennon & McCartney who are both on record as saying that a good deal
of the music they got hip to and which was absorbed into the Beatles
came in via US records bought in the same way via the Liverpool docks
in their case.

Right places....right time.

On the right side of the screen, near the top is a gear icon (that's
settings). Click on it & "Change language" should be the 8th item on
the menu.

PS. If you need to see it in English in order to understand the
settings, part of the URL should be "/?hl=sp", assuming sp stands for
Spanish. Just change whatever those two letters are to "en" & then load
the page; it should show in English, but it will revert to Spanish next
time unless you change the settings.

Gracias, or Thank you

Both fixes worked.

I guess the 'en' trick would work on other non-english sites ?

Thanks again,

If you see the"hl=" in another url, it'll work. I've only seen it on
google sites, like google books, youtube, etc. I learned the trick
because I run into the problem all of the time since I'm in Korea & the
pages are always coming up in Hangul instead of English.

It happened again, but this time the gear/setting produces a whole new page,

This is the url I'm getting:
https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1950s.
If you're logged into google, you should be able to get most of the
way there but simply entering https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en

You should only be getting a full page if you're clicking on "user
settings". If you click on the gear & then select "change language",
you should get a pop-up to choose a language & you can also check
"always use this language". However, I've found that google many times
doesn't remember those checkmarks & some other settings. I have a
particularly hard time with youtube settings having to constantly be reset.
