Since Bill was worried about there not being enough vocal groups
records in our hall of fame, and about some artists not being
represented with a song that is inducted, I thought I'd do a little
accounting work on the breakdowns.

So far there have been 118 songs inducted into the "Great Singles" wing
of the HOF.

BY GENRE:
Rock & Roll - 45
Doo-Wop - 30
R & B - 22
Rockabilly - 8
Country - 7
Blues - 3
Pop - 3

Naturally some records can fall into two or more genres, so I went with
what I felt was the most appropriate genre for each song. Many of the
doo-wops could also be called R & B, for instance, and many of the R &
B could also be rock and roll, and vice versa. Some vocal group records
were not counted as doo-wops, but as R & B (Sixty Minute Man & others)
or rock & roll (Yakety Yak & others).

It seems like we should be more concerned with the lack of pop or blues
singles that have been recognized than we should be with the vocal
groups or doo-wops.

MAKEUP OF ACT
Single Artists or rock groups - 67
Vocal Groups - 39
Duets - 2

I only counted groups where the group is named on the record and the
frontman is in the group, so even with that conservative system there
are now 39 songs inducted by vocal groups (33%), which is more than
representative, although this year's inductees (11 of 16) helped bring
that percentage up.

RACE
Black - 82
White - 35
Mexican - 1

Nothing much to say here.

BY YEAR (of release)
1950 - 3
1951 - 3
1952 - 2
1953 - 6
1954 - 15
1955 - 14
1956 - 26
1957 - 25
1958 - 17
1959 - 7

As usual, the early years and the last year are underepresented,
although in this case 1959 is clearly a much weaker year than the 5
years prior to that. Only 8 singles from the first three years of the
decade seems a little light though, although a few early things (How
High The Moon, Glory Of Love) came close this year. One glaring
omission from those earlier years is "One Mint Julep" by the Clovers,
which was not even a nominee this past year. For all the talk about R &
B around here, we seem to still be much more centered on the rock and
roll of the mid-50s. There's also as many rockabilly songs (8) inducted
as the total of songs from '50 to '52, and that's with Jerry Lee Lewis
and Gene Vincent NOT being considered as rockabilly (or Johnny Cash, of
course).

Below are those who have been inducted as artists, but who do not have
a single inducted yet:

Ruth Brown
Five Royales
Wynonie Harris
Ricky Nelson
LaVern Baker
Five Keys
Jimmy Reed
Jack Scott
Frank Sinatra

The Clovers, who have been in since the second year, finally had their
first induction of a single this year, with one of their more pop
records, "Devil Or Angel."

I expect Sinatra to have a song inducted when Bob runs a "Greatest
Album Tracks" vote soon. I don't really see a great candidate for an
induction by Jimmy Reed, Wynonie Harris or Ricky Nelson, who all had
records in other decades.

Some artists are like the Eddie Murrays of 50s music. No real great
seasons, but numerous very good seasons. hall of famers as artists for
sure, but no blockbuster indicvidual songs, or maybe just one or two,
in the case of some other artists.

Sorry, this is wrong. It should be:

1952 - 3
1953 - 5

So there's three singles in each of the first three years of the
decade, and only 5 from 1953.

Money Honey - Drifters featuring Clyde McPhatter
Your Cheating Heart - Hank Williams
Gee - Crows
Honey Hush - Joe Turner
Sunday Kind Of Love - Harptones

Glaring omissions from 1953 include "Crying In The Chapel" by the
Orioles and "Shake A Hand" by Faye Adams.

The presence of ONLY 3 pop entries in a 50's list shows exactly what a load
of fucking bullshit the HOF is.

I would imagine it's Ritchie Valens, though it's too much work wading

Valens was born in California so it couldn't be him. So Mr. Historian

Hey Coward

You asked me for a response.

I gave you one.

You Plonked.

So far, no harm no foul.

Then, after plonking, you

DERIDE ME REGARDING MY DAUGHTERS DEATH

all the while thinking you are hiding behind the plonk.

Come out of your sewer and face me like a man

You are a sniveling coward, a low life, hiding behind a plonk to make
insulting comments regarding the death of a child.

What a man. Cowardly man.

I can change my id faster than you can plonk

Im not going away.

Face me you weasel.

I really find it interesting that you decide Im a lunatic (which is your
right), then you troll me, then plonk, then continue to deride.

If I am a lunatic, I am one that knows who you are.

You must be nuts.

Rocky, don't let these trolls bother you. Bugge gets all bent out of

of lying about your daughter's death, all because he doesn't like your

fanatics in this country.

Which is the signature move of the troll around here, as is the
adaptation of someone else's screen name. You're starting to fit right
in. We have several people who are very proud of being trolls. One
more won't change things much, even though it isn't going to be an
improvement.

And as for your incredible reaction to Bill's original post, can you
direct me to the Usenet rule that says the absolute truth is required
in every post?

You claim there has been tragedy in your life. As the father of two
daughters I can only begin to comprehend what I would do to me if one
of them were to die. However, you will have to admit that you are not
the first person to tell a tale of hardships on the Internet, and you
wouldn't be the first to lie about it. The death of a child is as sure
fire a way as there is to garner immediate sympathy, but, to be honest,
we have no way to know if it is true or not.

Frankly, the speed with which you found it appropriate to bring your
daughter's death into the conversation, and doing so in an attempt to
validate what you had already posted, is enough to make me skeptical.
Speaking as a father, referring to the death of your daughter to
justify a Usenet post cheapens the impact of her death to a truly
insensible level. That's just my opinion, but it certainly raises
doubts in my mind about your credibility. Acting like a troll with
multiple screen names, and threatening to add more names just to
harrass one person, doesn't improve my estimation.

Cappy may choose to believe you outright. That's his prerogative.
He's got a history of making up all sorts of things himself, so maybe
he thinks that believing you will encourage you to believe things he
says without questioning them. His motive really doesn't matter,
because it only applies to him. (He may also be playing you for a sap.
He's proud of his lack of compassion. His display of concern for you
is not really his style.)

You appear to have a substantial amount of knowledge about music, and,
Mariah Carey aside, you seem have something to contribute here.
However, right now, the signal to noise ratio in your posts is pretty
damned low.

And just so you know, in the event you feel you have to react to me in
the same way, I don't killfile anyone, so you don't need to invent a
new screen name to harrass me because I choose to reserve judgment on
what you say about your personal life.

As you know, I can get down and dirty with the best of them, and let it all
roll off.

Talk of my daughter is different. You realized that certain things were off
limits, and transcend the everyday argument, disagreement, flame war, and
other inane things that takes place on usenet.

I agree with you that my political post is the one that set him off. There
were myriad opportunities prior to that that he ignored.

His pointing out that he was uneasy with me is a prejudice. Hes not used to
conversing with us project folks. He's is afraid of my roots and the
culture I came from, and thats the prejudice that scares him.

It probably confuses the shit out of him that we have fairly similar
musical tastes. How can he possibly have similar musical tastes as a
lowlife like me?

No wonder he's in hiding. He doesnt like himself.

Im holding back, or trying to maintain whatever rep RocketMan has by

Im not trolling, nor am I changing IDs in an attempt to hide.

Your comparing with ID changing trolls is incorrect.

The only reason I posted under the new id, is to bypass the plonk and
bring the weasel out of hiding.

You have no friggin idea. If you did, you wouldnt have posted this.

However, you will have to admit that you are not

So, any claim of a childs death needs to be supported with, what, an
obit? Funeral pictures? Newspaper photos of the wreck?

And once proven, then what? Does that then make comments like his off
limits?

Look. I dont care if you or anyone takes me on regarding music,
politics, history, any subject at all. Im game, and nothings personal.
This one, however, digs to the heart, the memory I have of my daughter,
and is very personal for me. I cant even put it into words. Im reading
what i just wrote and it doesnt convey the pain, nor does it portray my
disdain.

You totally miss the point. He trolled, then hid, then made comments
which to me are beyond the pale. This is the only way I can call him out
to face me like a man.

The death of a child is as sure
> fire a way as there is to garner immediate sympathy, but, to be

Fuck sympathy. I dont need your sympathy.

And, I WILL NOT let anyone who in any way brings up my daughter in a
negative or insulting light slide by. You talk above about your two
daughters, stating that I can only begin to comprehend

However, your post certainly tells me you dont have the first clue of
what its like, otherwise you would say nothing.

He asked me why I was so nasty. Its my lifes experiences that makes me
who I am. I talked about Vietnam, growing up in the inner city, and my
daughter, the three most significant happenings in my life. My
implication was that perhaps thats why Im sometimes nasty.

There was no bringing up her death in an attempt to validate whatI had
already said, as you have posted.

SHOW ME WHAT YOU ARE REFERRING TO HERE, because it simply never
happened.

When I think about
the death of my 15 year old daughter, I get mad.

This is usenet, not sunday school. You're in the gutter,
looking down at me. I may be looking up at you, but we're both still in

the gutter, like it or not.

---end of post---

That's a pathetic tribute to your daughter. If it's true. Using her
death to justify a shitty attitude on Usenet. That's despicable.

And don't let the archives stand in the way of some phony outrage, OK?

This is a perfect example of you talking authoritatively about things

Well, it looks now as if there will be several texts in that syllabus.

You know, you could have saved yourself the embarrassment of me having

your Usenet self-image was less than perfect. If this is really all

You've shown yourself capable of forgetting what you said without me

Well, there ought to be some truth in every thread, and you haven't

Does this mean you aren't my friend anymore? Just because you've

> Take your political garbage and shove it up your (or Dean's) ass.

And you call me the one thats nasty? I havent said anything this nasty,
to anyone here, and Im not claiming to be a saint, as you are. Go to the
mirror, boy.

Grow some balls and admit that the only reason you are responding this
way at all is because you disagree with my politics. Do you like Ann
Coulter? You're getting to be about as nasty as she.

> I'll wait a short time to read your expectedly vulgar response and
> then it's the killfile for you.

Typical republican coward. When confronted with things that make you
uncomfortable, run away. Ignore whats happening in the world around you,
hoping they arent real, at your peril. Maybe you would learn something
from the people you choose to killfile. Ill continue to read your posts
because I actually find myself agreeing with most of what you have to
say about music.

Now, you think Im nasty?

I was drafted into the other obscene war of my generation, Vietnam.
While there, I killed others, had friends killed, had friends maimed,
and was disabled myself. I vowed then to become an active member of
government and try to make sure nothing like vietnam ever happens again.
Yeah, I guess Im nasty. When I see what the current administration has
done and continues to do, I get mad. When my legs ache in the middle of
the night from my wounds, I get mad. When I attend funerals of by fellow
military brethren, I get mad. When i listen to the returning soldiers
and sailors at the American Legion Post, and the Disabled American
Veterans talk about the lack of armor while showing their stump of a
leg, I get really mad, because I worked for the DOD for 37 years, and I
know what its like going to war, unlike our current administration. They
cut the budget for armor, then plead ignorant when this war has 10 times
as many amputations per fighting man than Vietnam. When I think about
the death of my 15 year old daughter, I get mad. When I think about
growing up in the projects among the rats, gangs, dope, perverts, and
other lowlifes, I get mad, especially when the resident idiot jumps on
my every post and declares that i dont know anything about blacks, inner
city, poverty, racism, or I dont know what soul is. I dont look for
handouts from anybody, and I dont run away from confrontation. If I did,
I would have been killed long ago. You learn to take care of yourself
when you come from where I did. So, if I say something that offends your
sensibilities when defending myself or my position from attack, welcome
to the hood. This is usenet, not sunday school. You're in the gutter,

looking down at me. I may be looking up at you, but we're both still in
the gutter, like it or not.

I suspect you have never been in combat, and perhaps you have never
served in the military. Thats my educated guess. If discussions about
the obscene administration that runs this country hurt your
sensibilities, tough. If something I said is negative regarding this
administration and hurts your sensibilities, tough.

Im looking forward to your killfile. Im sure Ill run into some heroic
americans there.

Since I hurried to welcome Rocketman to the group, I'm now going to say

I did not use an alternate screen name as a means of attack.

He had killfiled me, then continued to insult me.

I changed the ID for that one post only, to bypass his killfilter.

In that post, I spoke as Rocketman. That is obvious due to the content.
There was nothing else sinister to read into it.

Thats it. Read no more into it.

Of course. You never, ever mentioned your daughter in the middle of
that rant. I made her up out of context.

One question, Rocky:

Did you or did you not use the alleged death of your daughter as part
of your excuse for your shitty Usenet attitude?

Don't bother to answer. I might only take the lie of an answer out of
context.

> you fail to show the post that requested the response
>

Yep. I "failed" to include the post because you didn't write it, and
it didn't require you bring your daughter into it. But somehow you
managed to do just that. And that's what I took out of context.

Horseshit.

I thought you cheapened your daughter's death, but if that's OK by
you, then you've got nothing to worry about because I think you're scum
for doing so. That is, if you had a daughter, and if she's dead.

> you also fail to present the WHOLE response, for true context.

You already said that. God, you're repetitive when you're cornered.
Do you think repetition makes you less of a freak?

When you said this before, in this post (so you don't make me quote you
again), I asked:

Did you or did you not use the alleged death of your daughter as part
of your excuse for your Usenet attitude?

You don't need the whole post as "context" to answer. You don't even
need to answer, because you *did* use the alleged death of your alleged
daughter as an excuse for your attitude.

And once again, I thought that cheapened your daughter's death, but if
that's OK by you, then you've got nothing to worry about because I
think you're scum for doing so. That is, if you had a daughter, and if
she's dead.

You see, Rocky, repetition doesn't make your explanation any more
credible.

So Bush is responsible for your daughter's death?

----long cut and paste edited out---

So what?

What's your alleged daughter's alleged death doing in the middle of
that rant?

We're supposed to understand you better because you mentioned it? Feel
sorry for you? What do you want from us, Rocky?

Moving on, I am glad to see that you didn't even bother to protest the
other post I quoted you on, so that the explanation Bill's life stands
exposed for the pathetic hypocrisy it is.

Or do you still claim that you just don't remember that post, either?

You are an immense creep for playing on everyone's sympathy just to
justify your Usenet behavior. If your story about your daughter isn't
true, you're one sick fuck for making it up and every father in the
world has the right to spit on you, and I would be happy to be first in
line. If it is true, then you are the saddest excuse for a real father
I have ever heard of. You dishonor your daughter's memory by using her
as an excuse for a pathetic display of obnoxious rhetoric.

Take it elsewhere.

Three years ago, Bill called me "naive" and "a loser" because I had the
audacity to oppose the upcoming Iraq war. Well, according to Bill, about 60%
of the country must now comprise naive losers, because 2239 dead soldiers
later, that's how many oppose the war--at least according to recent polls.

Oh, please.

First of all, you start shifting IDs. You say you aren't being a
troll, but that's what trolls do.

Secondly, just because you say something happened, we're supposed to
take it at face value? How long have you been on the Internet? Do you
believe everything everyone says?

There are as many reasons to make stuff up in Newsgroups as there are
newsgroups. What makes you exempt from scrutiny?

>

You brought the subject up. No one else.

You want a subject off limits? Don't bring it up in the first place.

You want a subject that you can bring up but without anyone questioning
what you say? Go set up your own moderated group.

Read the next line over and over until it sinks in:

NO ONE WOULD BE DISCUSSING THE DEATH OF YOUR DAUGHTER IF YOU HADN'T
OFFERED IT AS JUSTIFICATION FOR YOUR POST.

I still think that cheapens the memory of your daughter, if you really
had one, but then, I'm not looking to justify the way I say things
here.

Dean,

I wish you hadn't posted this, but you did, so:

I called you a loser not because you opposed the war (as a matter of fact, I
expressed my doubts about it to Tom Marek of this group privately), but
because you posted your opposition in the group as one of a string of
vituperative political pronouncements. I pointed out that you were a loser
because you blamed the government for your personal failures, such as
toiling at an $8 an hour menial job and, rather than getting off your fat
ass and doing something about it, it was easier to blame the system, as
personified by George Bush. I regretted calling you a loser because it was
nasty, but I'm not above reacting to nastiness with nastiness, as you can
see.

I guess I can't call you a loser anymore, since you moved up to $10 an hour.
Or do I remember reading that you lost that job?

You're asking ME for an apology after wishing one of my daughters dead?

Go fuck yourself.

True or not, you've trivialized the death of a daughter to justify your
behavior on Usenet.
There's no need to apologize to anyone for that. You're just a creep
in my book, but that's just my personal opinion.

Now you wish death upon one of my daughters, and then have the temerity
to ask God to forgive you for making the suggestion, as if he is

I repeat myself: Go fuck yourself

I'm sure God will also forgive me if I tell you to go fuck off with
your offer to "prove" something.

You've already proven you're the scum of the earth with that last post.

If there is any proof needed to the supposed depth of your sorrow about
your alleged loss, that one is it. No one who actually lost a daughter

Your work here is done, RocketMan. There are thousands of other

I'm finished. Once he wished death on one of my daughters, there's

It's a nice change of pace watching some other than Captain Cleo have

he couldn't immediately spin in Bush's favor? If so, that's kinda suprising.
After all, I thought the Bush-lover's capacity for denial and delusion was
limitless.

Whatever the case, I'm the worst nightmare of people like Bugge: a
left-winger who isn't quiet and deferential, and who fights back viciously
against the attacks of right-wing jerk-offs. And to make matters even worse
for them: until I was 21, I was a right-winger myself. Know what changed me?
The military! That's right. When I enlisted, I was an ardent conservative.
But when I received my discharge, I was a committed socialist.

In other words, I've been both a left-winger and a right-winger, and I
ultimately decided that at least 95% of the time, the latter is full of shit

So, if they were older than 26, they didnt fact the draft.

OK.

You're almost a troll.

You're almost the most despicable person I've ever encountered on
Usenet.

You're almost scum.

You're almost a moron.

You almost didn't use the ploy of your daughter's death to justify

But did you read his justification?

I think, to be fair, you've got to say that his ALMOST wish is ALMOST

For the record: Dick Cheney (before he dicks you) got five deferments during
Vietnam, while John "The Crisco Kid" Ashcroft got a whopping seven. Of
course, both "men" vocally supported the war, particularly when it became
obvious that their lily-white asses wouldn't have to fight in it.

Boy George, of course, didn't have to get any deferments. All he had to do
was get his daddy (the congressman) to make a phone call or two, and BAM!
Georgie Junior leap-frogged over hundreds of other appliants go get into the
texas Air Guard. And the son of a bitch went AWOL from even that cushy job!

Oh, but who cares about that? After all, Clinton got his dick sucked in the
Oval Office, and then (gasp!) lied about it!

If ever a U.S. president was a more worthless piece of shit than Bunnypants
Bush, I have yet to hear of him. No wonder he has the worst fifth-year

Shit, man, you're going to have to work harder than that.

So the idea that you know the name of a support group is supposed to
impress me? Google works here, too.

Do your friends at "Compassionate Friends" know you've sunk to using
the supposed death of an alleged daughter to excuse cranky behavior on
Usenet? Are they proud of you for this?

Or is there a special chapter of "imaginary compassionate friends," a
support group for people who lie about losing a child.

Is that where you learned to ALMOST wish death on someone else's child,
you creep?

The point remains, no one who actually lost a child would even ALMOST
wish that on anyone else, especially over something as petty as a
Usenet argument. Anyone who has lost a loved one of any type knows
what is too sensitive a subject. Only a fool or a faker pretends
otherwise.

Are you a fool or a faker, RocketMan?

> does bill bugger you?

The VA estimates that there are 200,000 homeless veterans on any given

Rocky, or anybody else can call me anytime they want - 973-680-0240.

If Fred were a man, he'd post his number so that Rocky could call him.

the bet.

You've now gone from someone who is so distraught and angry over his
daughter's death that it is off-limits for discussion to someone who
now is willing to make his supposed daughter's alleged death the
subject of a bet in a Usenet newsgroup.

Shit, just when I think you couldn't get any lower, Rocky, you somehow
still manage to push the bar down on the limits of despicable behavior.
Just reading this posts makes me ill.

How morally corrupt is this new idea? (Don't answer, because I figure
you can eventually find a way to make this look good by coming up with
an even worse idea.)

Here's a news flash, Rocky:

You're a troll. I don't make bets with trolls.

You are a true creep. I don't make bets with creeps.

Anyone who would ALMOST wish death upon a member of my family is a
lower life form. I don't make bets with lower life forms.

You have turned something you declared was off-limits into a betting
proposition. The charade of your daughter's "death" has now been
totally debased. It really doesn't get any more pathetic than that.
If you were really a father, you would know that.

Move on. Your work here is done, RocketMan. Just go away. Adopt
another screen name and sell your sad story to another newsgroup.
You've busted yourself here.

Abso-freekin-LOOTLY, Sharx. What the blazes do people around here
think was being played on radio in the 50s?????

Two observations here: first, roughly half this list lacks HoF status
as 50s artists as far as I am concerned -- and I'm basing that on top
40 air play at the time, and the ability of their recordings sustain
any significant level of popularity since. They may have made it big
R&B charts, or some other also-ran chart, but to my way of thinking,
pop music infers, by definition, POPULAR music.
Afro-Asian-Punk-Jazz-Raggae may have its own chart, but that doesn't
make its listings popular music -- nor would the existence of such a
chart (if it did exist) automatically qualify its listings as worthy of
HoF status in any *overall* 50s HoF. It's like hitting 50 homers in
the minors. Who gives a r@ts ass how big a splash you made in your
little pond if you made none at all in the big one?

Second observation is that the absence of any single by either Sinatra
or Nelson convinces me that the voters in general have no freaking clue
WHAT was popular in the 50s. Now, just to be clear, I personally never
cared all that much for Sinatra at the time -- my opinion has changed
somewhat since -- but love him or hate him, to ignore his impact on pop
music by suggesting that he has no worthy singles is nothing but
rampant ignorance of the era.

Finally, as I've said before, if a song (or an artist) can't make the
Top 40, what in blazes makes it worthy of HoF status?

This critique of humor is coming from a creature who thinks making a
joke of Bill's name is original humor.

This could be Exhibit B is why Rocket Man and Bruce are really the same
person.

Ow. This stuff stings so badly!

I am beginning to suspect your imaginary daughter faked her own bogus
death just to get away from such a poor excuse for a phony father. I
don't know why the idea of smothering you in your sleep never occured
to her, except for the fact she didn't exist.

So what are you going to do? Stand on my lawn and scream about your
daughter?

You've had the "courage" to post my name address and phone number.

Have you got the courage to post your own?
