California-based instrumental duo Wahid presents Road Poem, an
expressive album showcasing their ability to balance for Eastern
Mediterranean musical traditions, including Turkish classical music,
with modern improvisational flair. The oud (Middle Eastern lute) and
rhythmic, gliding percussion combine in the nimble complexity of these
rapturous pieces. Road Poem is music to be savored while driving,
working, or engaged purely in listening pleasure. Highly recommended.
The tracks are "Alexander's Regrets" (6:22), "Looking for
Paradhisi" (6:52), "Protoleia" (5:08), "Inside Silence" (6:34), "Indra
Reclines" (9:23), "Steal the Bride" (6:13), and "The Outcast" (6:10).

Linger Longer

$14.99 perhapspiano.com

Linger Longer is the second album of original solo piano music by
concert pianist and classical music teacher Laura McMillan. Though she
enjoys inspiration from superlative historic masters such as Mozart,
Beethoven, and especially Frederic Chopin, McMillan pours her own
style of heart and soul into her compositions, which shift in tone
from quiet remembrance to the depths of love to taking joyful flight.
Linger Longer will inspire the listener to do just that, savoring the
nuances of each piece, and is worthy of the highest recommendation for
piano music connoisseurs. The tracks are "The Window", "December
12th", "Twirling", "With All My Heart", "Empty", "Dear Heaven",
"Linger Longer", "Letting Go", "Without You", "Wings", "July Lullaby",
and "Raspberry Rain".

In their long tradition of offering authentic Native American music,
Canyon Records presents two excellent new CDs that are live recordings
of pow-wow songs. "Right Now: Pow-Wow Songs Recorded Live in Mt.
Pleasant" ($15.60, 55 min.) by the Grammy-nominated group Bear Creek
involves a medley of song styles including Intertribals, Side-Steps,
Crow Hops and more. The result is a high-energy album brimming with
the strong spirit of lifelong cameraderie. "Elders' Vision: Pow-Wow
Songs Recorded Live at Kyi-Yo" ($15.60, 70 min.) is a compelling album
by the Blackfoot Confederacy, a pow-wow group dedicated to the
Blackfoot vocal style and drawing upon their musical traditions to
honor their elders and share their culture with the next generation.
Both albums are highly recommended for listeners with an interest in
the vibrant and evolving world of Native American music.
