Is Michael Stipe Left-Handed?

I've seen him write left-handed and play guitar right-handed(on Rough
Cut)

Does anyone know what the deal is?
I write right-handed and play guitar lefty, I thought I was the only
person this wierd.

Ni. He is middle-handed. For those of you who don't know, Stipey has
actually three arms. But, when he is on earth, he only uses two arms at a
time. Due to various mood-shifts etc. He removes different hands at
different times.

He's left handed but I think he uses or used a right handed guitar cause
they are more available.

Yes, Michael is left-handed. I remember seeing him sign a CD when they
appeared on SNL, the one with Sarah JP. I saw a clip of it on the documentary
they had done for PBS. Naturally, you are probably wondering why I even
remember that, it's because I AM A LEFTY TOO!!!, and was so excited when I saw
that Michael was.

Nope, you are not the only one. I can't help you on the guitar, but I do bowl,
golf, and throw RIGHTY if that makes any sense. Us left-handed people are
pretty versatile, though it was always hard growing up in a *right-handed*
environment.

if it was the cut from SNL, then it wouldn't matter which hand he was, cuz
he just decided he liked that one little riff or something, and he borrowed
one of pete's backups pretty much on the spot... i think... no time to
restring or anything... i think.

I do recall that ICftS does mention Stipe being left-handed. But am not surprised that he plays guitar right handed. 1) He probably doesn't play guitar that much if someone had to tell him what the knobs do. And 2) It's probably not his guitar.

As for me, some things I do right handed (writing) and others I do left-handed (mouse control and freestyle skating). I learned to play right-handed because everyone else does so, it's the way I was taught and, besides, I can't find a left-handed guitar.

Christi.

In ice dancing, every skill is developed both ways. Hmm... Another discipline for me to take up? Maybe when I can afford two skating instructors and another pair of boots.

I don't wanna sound stupid but maybe it is unavoidable at this point. I'm on
eof those lefty's who was taught to do everything right handed. Talk about a
dyslexic mess I am today. The thing I';m wondering about though, is the
guitar. I play an old Ovation and it has often occured to me that if I wanted
to play it left handed, all I would have to do is put the strings on upside
down. My very dear friend from whom I learn a lot from on the guitar does play
left handed and it's easier to learn from him playing a mirror image. Can
someone explain why you just couldn't put the strings on upside down?

I told you it was unavoidable.

I thought Stipe couldn't really play guitar and was just playing a chord or two
that they showed him. In that case, it doesn't matter. Though I write with my
right hand and eat with my left, so...

Thats not quite true, he always plays guitar for that song, he only play one
chord "I only play an A or something, but it's the best A you'll hear"
(paraphrase) He just decided that he wanted to play guitar on one song and
Peter showed him the chord and when to play it.

You could, but you'd have to change both nuts (the white things that the
strings lay on) and flip them upside down. The grooves are cut for specific
strings. If you restring it upside down, either it won't work or it won't hold
tune very well. Otherwise you CAN do it, and I have seen many people who have.

Is that why my acoustic won't stay in tune? Because it's reversed?
Or is it because it's old, crap, cheap and light-blue?

Maybe I should get a new one.

Kurt Cobain often played upside down guitars, on Unplugged he clearly
does, and some of his electrics also are right handed.

There could be lots of reasons. It might be cause it's reversed. Most likely
it's because it's light-blue.

Did you notice, on RoadMovie, Mike Mills plays an upside down Left
Handed Strat for Let Me In.

I strum the guitar w/my right hand. That makes my right-handed, right? Left?
hehe
It seems to me that the most control is needed in the opposite hand (the one
fingering the strings).
If that isn't confusing enough, i write & spoon, etc. lefty.

I thought Mike did that for every show on the monster tour. Am i
wrong? He definitely did for two shows in Atlanta.

If I'm not mistaken, the guitar in question is Kurt Cobain's old
guitar. He was left handed, thus the guitar that Mike plays is a lefty
strung for a righty.

I seem to recall that Eric Clapton attributed some of his prodigious skill on
the guitar to being left handed yet learning to play righty (so that his
"better hand" is fingering chords rather than strumming).

Yeah, that's Kurt Cobain's guitar that Courtney Love gave to the band.
