BTW, Lanegan is one of those musicians I absolutely love but own no albums
by (except for one Screaming Trees album, a bunch of Screaming Trees songs
on compilations, and one Lanegan track on a compilation.) Yet all the solo
material I've heard him do is just mesmerizing -- dark, creepy, country-ish
stuff (his 1990 album "The Winding Sheet" contains a cover of "Where Did You
Sleep Last Night" that's even more guttural and frightening than Nirvana's
version (or any version that I've heard recently.)
--but i digress, jody.
Mark and Peter wrote some songs together last year, but I don't know if
they were ever recorded. Mark has recorded an album of covers that is
scheduled to be released in September, and is working on a new album of
original songs which is due out next year. I don't know if Peter was
involved in either of these projects. Mark, Peter, and Barrett were
also supposed to have recorded a cover of the Neil Young song "Four
Strong Winds" for a movie soundtrack which apparently has not yet been
released.
I have heard that Peter played on some demos that the Screaming Trees
recorded last year, and that he might play on the new album the Trees
plan to record soon. He did play a few songs with the Trees at
Bumbershoot last year.

Good grief, go buy them! He is an incredible singer, and it amazes me
that more people don't know about him.

Exchange ideas on practically anything (tm).
Yeah, really. Incredible, just incredible. "Whiskey for the Holy Ghost" is
the next album I'm buying.

The STs are good, but nowhere near as good as Lanegan solo.

Interesting. No one could ever really replace Bill, of course. Joey
Waronker is a good drummer, but I don't really like him all that much,
probably for a reason similar to yours (even though I know he's not an
actual replacement). And as a huge Trees fan, I would have hated to see
Barrett leave that band, but it would have been cool to see him play
with another of my favorite bands. (I was kind of hoping he'd do both.)

They must have it on CDNow, though...

Okay, you asked for it. I only thought they were an okay band before I
heard Barrett Martin was replacing Bill Berry on Up. When I heard
replacing, I assumed that this was an actual replacement. I after that
was not fond of Martin and my dislike carried over to the Trees.
I warned you, it was stupid...

Have you heard That Dog, the now-defunct band that featured Joey's sister
(and Lenny's daughter) Anna Waronker? I'm just nuts about them...
I love That Dog. Well, I love "Retreat From The Sun", the only album I
have, but I should be getting the other two in a few days, and I'll
probably love those also.

Dammit, I'm not in your .sig anymore. Oh well :-) To show that I still
care about the band that I mentioned in your .sig, I'll mention that
they covered "The One I Love" at Woodstock Friday.
And let's not forget Petra's two solo albums...
I did not know they existed, I will have to buy them eventully (along
with about a zillion other albums...)
i love them, too. all i've got is "retreat from the sun", but i've been told
that the self-titled one isn't all that good. didn't know there was a 3rd....
