Congratulations,
but it`s kind of like rubbing salt Bro`!
we should all have the luck!
peace I respect,
alon
I was at a record shop this afternoon, and it was the kind of place that had
alot of rock LPs, lots of Supertramp and 3 Dog Night and that kind of thing,
but there was also a huge pile of several thousand 45s in a mountain near the
front counter...
I was pawing through the 45s, and I found twenty or thirty JA records, things
like 'No more heartaches' by the Beltones on Harry J and some Beverley's 45s...
Then I take the records up to the counter and the guy's like, you like that
Jamaican stuff? I've got more back here..
So I follow him to this dusty set of shelves, and he's got all sorts of 12"s
and albums- stuff from Upsetters, Errol Thompson, GG's...
And the Piece de Resistance- an LP called "Ska at the Jamaica Playboy Club" on
Island Records!
This record is really wild...the cover has Millie Smalls in a Playboy Bunny
outfit, and the inside sleeve has an 8-step photo by photo guide showing how to
"Do the Ska"- the photos show a man doing the ska with a Playboy Bunny girl.
It is a riot!
The record itself is great- it has a BIZARRE, REALLY WEIRD pop version of
Millie singing "Carry Go Bring Come"...it is really really crazy.
Just felt like sharing...of course if anyone is interested in tapes, I'm glad
to help. That is, if you really want to hear Millie's pop version of "Carry Go
Bring Come" :-)
So do us Bostonians get tolearn the store in question, or did you
wipe the place clean? :)

:-) Well, in the spirit of Christmas, I'll let ya'll in on the secret...the
shop is the Mystery Train in Gloucester MA...I get up there about once a month,
since it's sort of a hike. But they get in a lot of obscure JA records and
some calypso stuff.
I think I actually pretty much wiped the guy out yesterday, but give them a
week or two and I'm sure they'll have more stuff back in. It's usually worth
the drive.
season's greetings and all,
peace,
Dave
