Hi. Don't believe what you hear. Rastas do wash their hair, though I imagine
they're like anybody else you find, i.e. some have better hygiene than others.
In the case of Bob Marley, he had undergone radiation and chemotherapy
treatments, which resulted in, among other things, the loss of his dreadlocks.

There are some people out there who still wish to impugn the name and
reputation of Bob or of Rasta. Another fallacious claim is that Bob died from
smoking marijuana.

Among the more reputable sources for information on the life of Bob Marley,
check out Spirit Dancer, and the biographies of Bob by Stephen Davis or Chris
Salewicz. The Timothy White bio, for reasons I won't go into here, is fraught
with controversy.

You FOOL dreadlocks are forever they are not something that you can have
one week and not the next. I doubt very seriously if the Honorable Robert
Nesta Marley had lice in his hair. I have dreadlocks and I wash my hair
all the time. It's ignorant people like you that come up to me and ask
all the time can you wash your hair or how do you wash your hair.

That is a misconception people have about dreadlocks - you can wash dreadlock
like any other hair and it is not dirty.

Oh gosh...

::sigh::

*Anyone* can get head lice, no matter how clean they are.
Dreadlocks do not make a person more or less prone to lice.

Well, go round the bend and THINK AGAIN. When Bob died, he
had no locks, due to chemotherapy and medications he was
taking. Yes, he did have huge locks, they were beautiful, made
him look like a lion!! But....listen me, you don't have to have
locks to have lice.....LOL. That's propaganda you are listening to.
You should be ashamed of even listening to such foolishness.
If you want a *probably*, here's one for ya, Bob probably washed his hair
more times in a week than most people do in a month. Spread that
one around, why don't you?

Auntie Sim

To me, this seems very impossible because Bob didn't have dreadlocks when
he died. There is in fact many pictures of Bob without dreadlocks.

Re: the Timothy White bio,

I can't speak to "controversy," but I can tell you,
as someone who has consulted everything on Marley on can find,
for my own scholarship, that White is very unreliable on
biographical details. In fact, a lot of the book is flat
out fiction. The Stephen Davis bio is more reliable, and has
much more on the adult Bob, and is less of a "hagiography,"
as the stiff-necked fools call uncritical hero-worship with
messianic projections.

White puts all sorts of words and thoughts and peoples
mouths and minds that he can't possibly have had access to.

One Love,
M.C. Gregory
