One at a time. In other words, don't fill up your basket overly quickly.

It's one of a number of JA'can proverbs which caution prudence.

You fill the basket one by one (with food / etc.).
It's about patience and perserverance.
Those that try to do it all at once, live big today,
tomorrow are buried in a casket.

WRONG WRONG WRONG ALL OF YOU ARE WRONG!!IT it means its not the size of the
contrubution that matters, its the consistancy of the contribution that
counts...taken from a jamacian proverb book..and it is one one coco NAH full a
basket!

actually you're wrong, it is "one one cocoa full basket"

second, it means that by having patience you will realise your goals,
in other words "one one cocoa" which means you take one cocoa at a time
(as in the cocoa pod, fruit of the cocoa tree), and that will "full
basket" or "fill the basket"

it is very similar to another common Jamaican proverb "every mikkle
make a mukkle, every mukkle make a mikkle"

i would make the following suggestion "dash wey yuh book"

DWL. I agree.

Question tho, cocoa as in cocoa pod or
coco as in the ground root? I always thought it was the latter.

that's a good question, i have been spending too much time in the EC
lately, so i guess i have cocoa on the brain and not coco, but jamaica
has both, so hmmmmmm.

In article <9drlln$jn0$1...@nntp.Stanford.EDU>, Christopher Albin Edmonds says...
Yes, I always thought it was coco, not cocoa, too.

Thanks for the clarification.

I always thought it was a warning against greed.
If one coco fills your basket why do you need two?
In other words take only what you need.

Respect.

now you are just instigating shit.

why is it that all these people start following
up with way off answers, when the correct
answer was given a long time ago.

look ... when christopher, who is from JA, gives an
answer in relation to his culture that
is the final answer.
everyone is always claiming to be JA experts.

this man has lived in JA since Noah, but yall
still cant except what he says.

sometimes i get the feeling i am among idiots.

Another, much shorter definition, from THE GRIP: PATOIS - THE LANGUAGE
AS SPOKEN BY JAMAICANS by Madge Hyatt:

"ONE-ONE COCA, FULL BAWSKIT:
Every little makes a lot"

Why are you so hostile?
This is the third time you've responded to one of my posts in a negative
manner.

I wasn't suggesting anyone else was wrong.
I was musing on how far off I was.

Regardless; why are you policing the input of others?

I guess that at this juncture, it would be well fitting to say that people
have to watch there approaches. People get very offended well they feel like
you want to tell them about their own culture. Especially us "Jamaicans."
You can't know about a man's house better than he knows.
Anyway, You are cool peoples so, let's move on.
