i think he lives in the sf bay area now. big song: none shall escape
the judgement, covered by johnny clarke but zero's version is better.
released on greensleeves and epiphany in the usa. i think epiphany also
released an lp by him, also a combo with him and the offs, a sf? punk
band.

plus he starred in an unreleased video (shown once on the old night flight
program) with the soul syndicate (name check for the underratted
george "fully" fullwood).

There's one unbeliavably awesome roots 12" from Earl Zero.
Please officer is the title and it was released on Sufferers Heights
label back in 1979, which brought us some terrific roots anthems like
Locksley Castell's What a great day, Sugar Minott's Hard Time pressure
and Horace Andy's Pure Ranking.
Please officer is produced by Prince Jammy at King Tubbys and b/w
Augustus Pablo's Pablo in Moonlight City on the same riddim.
It an A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E K-I-L-L-E-R. Universally and itinually,
philosophically and almost any other -ally, not IMHO this time. :)

Ha, I think this increases the prices in the collector's market, sorry
bwoys :(

Earl Zero's album is called - "Earl Zero with the Soul Syndicate - Visions
of Love" It was released in 1979 on the Epiphany label in San Francisco
but, was recorded at Channel One in Jamaica - It also includes a pretty
impressive back-up with Earl "Chinna" Smith on lead guitar, Fully Fullwood
on bass, Santa Davis on drums, Augustus Pablo on piano, xylophone and
melodica, etc. to name a few! It's a nice album! Just wanted to share
the info.

I remember an album by Earl Zero called 'City of the Weakheart' around
the mid 70's.

I know this because an LP I bought on the 'Lucky' label had that
information printed on it even tho the album itself was instrumental
featuring some wicked synthesiser sounds.

Unfortunately the album has gone missing and I only haveit on tape.
Can anyone else shed some light?

In the mid eighties, Earl was brought to Columbus, Ohio by a promoter
named Hugo Cabrera. Hugo is now the owner of a great reggae club called
Skankland. Earl decided to stay in Columbus and fronted a band made up
of myself and a bass player, among others, named Greg Coping (sp). Greg
went on to join the band Identity (fronted by a singer named Deighton
Charlemagne, the half-brother of Terry Bobb and Eustace, the drum and
bass players of the Ark band.

Anyway, Earl and I ended up on a tour opening for Big Youth. Youths'
band consisted of Fully Fullwood was on bass, Santa Davis on drums and
Tony Chin on guitar. We played Jimmy's in New Orleans and the Caribbanna
Club (I think that's the name) in Houston. The rest is just a blur. When
we got back to Ohio, we played the regional club circuit for a while.
During this time, Earl changed his name to Earl Love, then, I moved to
Florida.

The last recording I have by Earl (Love) is a 7" called "Stick With Me
One Girl" on the Love Label. It was recorded in 1987 at Proverbe Studios
in Philly. Although the only Lp I saw of him was Visions of Love, he
once told me he had three Lp's out, though I just can't remember the
names or labels.

Earl is great person and his recollections of life and the music in
Kingston during the sixties and seventies are classics. I would really
like to know where he is. Again, he may go by Earl Zero or Earl Love.

He probably did. Many artists have redone or sampled part of that
song. I have not heard that particular version that you're talking
about.

I asked Jonathan Richman if he had heard None Shall Escape the Judgement.
He told me he tried to play that song, but got it wrong, and came up
with Egyptian Reggae instead.

It was last summer. I don't get out that way often, but he was there the
two times I was there in August and September.

I recently picked up a 12" that says Earl Zero and Offs on one side and
just Earl Zero on the other. What is the actual track listing on this
record since it isnt printed on the label? Does anyone know? Please

Greetings,

Accordingly to the liner notes of Prince Alla's "Only Love Can Conquer"
on Blood&Fire 'Earl Zero aka Earl Jones recorded in the 70's for Bertram
Brown's Freedom Sounds label', so maybe Blood&Fire / Steve Barrow can be
a help on this one. And maybe we can put on the pressure to release the
Earl Jones / Freedom Sounds stuff.

Side A is the Offs Vs. Zero "Why Boy". I love this 12" because it's so
different. This tune is kind of a funky new wave tune with great old
style horns and harmonies. Not a lick of reggae until Earl shows up
about half way thru on this rockers and melodica break then it slips
into some dubwize with plenty of saxophone skronk

Side B is Zero Vs. the Offs. Which is a pretty great minor key reggae
work out with massive bassline. Earl singing about "music is a comfort"
whther it be punk, new wave, rock or reggae. More saxophone soloing.
Then about half way through it changes gears and picks up this runaway
tempo, carried by more melodica until it feels like the wheels gwan fall
off, featuring Earl's bird calls. Pretty interesting stuff

I wonder if Epiphany has any plans to reissue Visions of Love. Adding
this 12" might be a good way to flesh out the legnth of a 75 minute Cd.

My other favorite Earl Zero moment is the Greensleeves 12" of City of
the Wicked and Righteous Works. Also licensed from Epiphany.

Thanks to all ! -
for the collective discography of Earl Zero.
Again InI will state, that Ephiphany (who frequents this
newsgroup) has never offered to give any type of
discography for him.

So, if anyone is wondering why Earl Zero is not as
successful in life (concerning his recorded material),
they can then look to the lack lustre do nothing promotions
of Epiphany.

A definition of Epiphany signifies - "The gifts of the Magi".
However, it wasn't until a public awareness was raised
concerning how Epiphany stiffed Earl Zero - that the
label and individual called Epiphany finally forked over
what was due to Earl.

All reports as to his present whereabouts are correct.
So if you are in the Calif. region, do look for the one
Earl Zero, and throw some change in his guitar box.
He's not a rich man, and he no doubt would sincerely
appreciate your patronage, as he plays in the streets.

So by giving him a true "Epiphany" gift during this holiday
period, will suredly be a blessing to one such as he,
and a blessing in return for the giver.
Cause the other "so called" Epiphany is only that -
Just a name that's all.

Blood and Fire has promised a various artists compilation
of Freedom Sounds material. That should be a dandy, especially
if it has the vocal tunes that are dubwise on the King Tubby/
Soul Syndicate set.
