I would say Luciano would be a stalwart choice, but Beenie? I think
Sizzla, Anthony B and Capleton are all on a higher plane

The most popular right now is Capleton.

Anytime Capleton is played in the dance
he receives a huge forward.

Capleton, no doubt. I look forward to his receiving the Grammy
next year (the "old-school" constitution of the nominating
committee notwithstanding).

Hahhahhhaaa. You're a funny guy Roland :-). We all know already that the
dancehall "mercy" pick from the reggae Grammy committee is going to be
Beenie Man's Art & Life b/c it's on a major label, Virgin.

Capleton No Doubt, here in Jamaica he is the biggest thing since slice
bread. Totally overshadowing Beenie Man. However i doubt if his any of
his latest albums will be nominated for grammy, because of two reasons,

1. He Has not sold any significant quantity in the "mainstream" market
2. His popularity has been earned through fervent touring and
performances.

His singles sell like hot bread, but the album sales have a lot to do
with a grammy nom.

Beenie Man is most likley to receive it this year, with a album debut
at 68 on the TOP 100, and nearly 100,000 in recorded sales he is the
man to beat.

Morgan Heritage will also place in the final 5 with their live album
just on the streets.

Sean Paul is heavy and will also be a hot prospect on the streets with
his debut album first stage.

Mr. Vegas is a hot finisher with one MOJO award under his belt to
influence judging.

Hot Surprises would be :

Buju Banton - long awaiting
Lexus - That would be BIG !!
Sizzla - Lot of potential and work

Because I'm bored with his sound. Sure, the new album has a few decent
songs (Life Is A Journey, Pull It Up, etc), but overall one listen to
the album was enough for me. I think Buju is past his ranking days.
Require more reason to say so?

There is no "roots" artist today that is putting out anything of
relevance to millennial reggae that dancehall artists are releasing. If
in the next Grammy set of 5 it isn't 4 dancehall stalwarts with one
"roots era" artist, the Grammys are still just colonial booshwah living
two decades in the past. I don't care who's on the committee choosing
the reggae nominees.

Shaggys label at the time made a fervent effort to break into the
mainstream market, remember the levi's ad featuring bombastic ? it was
things like those that made the artist known to the mainstream audience.

Shabba WAS LIKE CURRY TO SPAIN,an exotic sound, but shabba held strong
to break the way for dancehall.

Thirdly FYI Grammy means nothing to Capleton, nothing

Yeah, given his public demonstrations on behalf of his Bobo
convictions, I would suspect as well that his primary concerns
are to be "number 1 pon the Emmanuel chart," etc. What this rmr
discussion is getting at is people's desire to see the
reggae Grammy process reflect what is actually going on in
Jamaica right now, i.e., give the dancehall artists their due.

Exactly. There are millions brands of hard
dough/hardo breads in Ja and Hardo is one
of them. The best hard dough bread is baked
by Sweet Bakery in Apple Valley, Maggotty,
St. Elizabeth.

Now I have to rush to the Original Cool Runnings
Bashment à la top selectors of Finland and Estonia:
Daddy T-Roy, Lt. Vickie, Ringo Ringvee, Tarrvi
Laamann, Dublifta, Prince Yellow and Scandal Bag.
Place: Mother, Eerikinkatu 2, Helsinki, Finland.
Time: Tonight at 9 pm - 3 am.
On playlist: Latino, Groovin, Get Busy, Vagina,
Intercourse, Orgasm, Doorslam, Virus, etc. -
take note of the logical order! ;-)
Free entrance! Welcome!

Not many hits on Capletons photos. Maxi (is this really reggae) Priest,

Music wise, showmanship, I say Luciano.

Is that this little bakery on the left side of the road at a bend
when you're coming into Maggotty from the north and turning like
you're going to Treasure Beach? If so, I would have

people should make theidifference between buju for the int'l market and buju
for the local market, where his hardcore tunes are hard as ever. capleton will
get stale before buju fails to impress. on an int'l level , capleton is rather
unlikely to make many waves, i believe.
depends what people think as most popular, is it at yard or abroad????

But I myself enjoy listening to capleton I think if he did a tour down

most popular by what criteria?

sales -- Bob Marley
touring -- Burning Spear, Ziggy, UB40
in Jamaica -- I don't know, but when I lived there, the most popular
artist with the dancehall crowd was the one who was about to bust not
one who was already big
