Well, I'm trying to sort this one out. I found a used copy of a curious
cd called 'Wild Connection' by Rod Argent, Gary Moore & Phil Collins -
actually, it's not a bad cd at all........ Yet, all the music is written
by Lancaster or Lancaster/Frost. I assumed that's Jack Lancaster,
searched allmusic.com and this also somehow seems to be an album by Jack
called 'Skinningroove Bay.' Anyway - it lists Rod Argent, Robin Lumley
and Jack Lancaster all playing keyboards/synths, yet this 'Wild
Connection' cd doesn't mention them at all, but obviously lists Argent
as a (main) artist. My main question - does anyone know which keyboard
player is playing what here? ......... This leads me to think of Rod's
'Moving Home' album, dated around the same time as 'Wild Connection'
which also boasts Collins & Moore as main players. I'm now wondering if
I'm missing something here - are these releases related, or the same, or
what? Thanks in advance in piecing this together....................

Hi,

This is from an interview I did with Jack Lancaster a couple of years
ago. Sheds some extra light on the countless reissues and repackagings
this album has had to suffer :

Q: After Aviator, you made your first solo album "Skinningrove Bay" - I
think this is the actual title, since this has been reissued (with less
than tasteful cover art) under the title "Deep Green", and even as a
Phil Collins-Gary Moore-Rod Argent collaboration, using the "Wild
Connections"title to make things even more confusing... How come you've
had so little control over the use of this material ?

A: This is a sore point and you have hit a nerve. "Skinningrove Bay" was
recorded for Acrobat Records who paid for the sessions. It was never
completely finished because I exceeded the budget. Robin [Lumley] and I
mixed it anyway and then the shit hit the fan and Acrobat filed for
bankruptcy. The tapes ended up in the hands of a suitably named company
"Shanghai Records." Who then released it in all sorts of crappy
tasteless forms taking advantage of the well known guests involved in
the recording. Also I have never received any payment for publishing or
sales so you can understand why it is a sore point. I have been in touch
with the owner of the company and for years he has promised to pay up
but I have received nothing for my pains.

Q: Speaking on the album itself, can you shed some light on how it came
about ?

A: Skinningrove, North Yorkshire is the place I was born and the music
was supposed to reflect the history of the coastal village. The
intention was to include local folk music entwined with a rock-feel.
Many of the tunes were never recorded but I still have them in one form
or another. So one day if I can get back the "stolen" rights perhaps I
can complete it.

They're different albums. I own both.
That whole phase in Rod Argent's career is rather fuzzy. Everything he
touches turns to fuzz.

That's gonna be so fuckin cool. When this happens, I'll buy dozens of
them and give them out to all my friends.

Jack Lancaster (ex-Brand X) released a duet album with Rick van der Linden
entitled "Wild Connections" in 1979.

Subsequently, his 1981 solo album "Skinningrove Bay" (featuring all those great
folks) was re-issued under the title "Wild Connections" and credited to Phil
Collins, Gary Moore & Rod Argent:

Shamefully, Lancaster's name doesn't even appear on his own solo album.

The version I have (on CD, on C-Five Records) says "Jack Lancaster's
Skinningrove Bay" on the cover and disc, but on the spine it's credited
to "Various Artists."

Shoot, how many times has this thing been released? Mine is on Zok Records
(London) and it says Lancaster everywhere it should. I also used to have an LP
of it on Kamera, but that doesn't seem to be in the rack anymore.
