Different albums with the same cover art?

I just picked up the first Nebelnest CD last week and noticed
the album cover uses the same NASA photograph that would later
be used on the first Shalabi Effect CD. What other examples of
such a freak occurrence are out there? (And no, the Magma
discography doesn't count.)

The Beatles' White album and Celeste self-titled album looks pretty
similar to me.

Also, Blodwyn Pig's album (the one with the pink background, and pig
wearing sunglassed), Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica, and Moving
Gelatine Plates' 2nd album looks sort of similar.

And Hands' self-titled and Harmonium's self-titled album has the same
picture, but different colors.

The stone figure on Jim Hall's Concierto and Ruins' Symphonica album
look alike (maybe it's a too much of a stretch here).

And the first 3 Henry Cow albums look alike too (hehe).

Taproban's "Ogni Pensiero Vola" has the same horrible stone face on the cover
that wound up on Michael Nyman's "Noises, Sounds and Sweet Airs".

For some strange reason, when Gentle Giant's Three Friends was issued in
North America they used the same artwork that appeared on their 1st LP.

The Moody Blues The Present and the Dali's Car (Mick Karn and Peter
Murphy) album. (One of them is altered a bit, and I know it's a famous
painting, but the name and/or artist escapes me at the moment.)

There's also a famous painting (of waves) that has been used on a Cal
Tjader's Breeze From The East (I think it's that one), that I've also
seen on a classical recording, a Charles Lloyd album - and I want to
say it's also the cover of Waves by Jade Warrior? Maybe?

Lou Reed's Transformer and The Blue Mask, though that really doesn't
count, I guess.

Pearls Before Swine "Balaklava" and Black Sabbath "Greatest Hits" both
have Breughel The Elder painting "The Triumph of Death".

Probably because the first album wasn't released in the States
until the CD era. I think Columbia thought that cover was a more
"marketable" or iconic graphic.
Why they chose to change the cover to _Octopus_, on the other
hand, is anyone's guess.

I once saw an album in the used racks (by whom I can't remember), that
used the same photo as IQ's _Subterreanea_. Really strange -- I had
assumed the IQ cover had been altered in some way, but I guess there
is a place on earth that actually looks like that.

Pearls Before Swine's _One Nation Underground_, Deep Purple's s/t (?),
and some Swiss metal band all use Bosch's "Garden of Delights"

It's by Maxfield Parrish, something like "The Dawn".

On a nerdish note, viewers of "The Two Towers" may have noticed that
Peter Jackson has used the same image as his inspiration for the
flashback scene between Aragorn and Arwen in Rivendel.

Why? It's over-rated :-)

Both CD's have the same artwork, too, IRCC.

Who knows? Maybe Columbia thought Dean's art was too uncommercial.

If you're talking about the one I think you are, it's also on Nick Mason's
Animal's ear drum kit, as well.

Well, certainly doesn't fall into the progressive category, but I have
an old Monty Python LP that had exactly the same cover art as a
classical music LP that a friend's parents owned. The only difference
was that the Python LP had scribbling all over the cover (as though
done with a magic marker) and the name of /their/ record written on
the front.

That might have been "Space Themes" by Vangelis, which I don't own,
but there's a picture of the cover along with 31 other mostly
pop-music CD's on the inside of the "PFM Story" CD I have. The photo
is the exact same as the one on the cover of Subterranea except the
Subterranea has a white light streak across it.

I think it was only the American record company that did that. The
British pressing does have a different cover.

It's the other way 'round; the Three Friends LP was issued in the US with
the cover from the first GG LP, and the CD reissue followed suit. I agree,
it's stupid, but I'm sure it was done on the LP because, frankly, the UK
Three Friends cover art sucked, whereas the import-only first LP art was
pretty decent. It was probably done on the CD out of laziness and/or
ignorance.

Lunatic that I am, I actually held out for the very out-of-print
Line edition of _Three Friends_, which has the original cover art.
Isn't there a British edition with the original art? There should be!
