BBFCFM !!
I don't like the new Water in the Sky very much, or Shafty (the old
H20 and Oblivious Fool were cool, I think)

Guys, you are ay to hard on them. I understand that you may not like some
originals but a bad phish song is the closest thing to an oxymoron. I mean
every band has their goodies and songs that you sit down to. Phish is no
exception to that rule. SO dont go off saying that some phish songs suck.
Just my two cents

I don't see how any of you can consider yourself phans if you get on an AOL
news group JUST to talk about the songs that you hate. Go outside... Talk a
walk... Do something with your life than think about the songs that you DON'T
like by what's supposedly your favorite band. But most of all, just grow up!

This is absolutely ridiculous. Why vote for something you hate about your
favorite band? Sure not all Phish songs rank up there with the likes of
Divided Sky, Bowie, Tube, and Mike's but they are still good songs. Whoever
started this thread just needs to end it. And just for the record Lawn Boy
is a great song. It is even better live when you see Page get up from the
keys and saunter around stage playing to the crowd. It is funny, but is
meant to be that way. Just my two cents.

I'm sorry but I disagree with you. Sure almost all Phish songs are great,
but I find it a good discussion to talk about, which ones are not up to par
with the rest of their stuff. I certainly consider myself I "Phan", even if
I don't like a couple songs. It's unrealistic to like EVERY phish song.
It's almost as if the band has hypmotized you to idol everything they
do...(Like if you start dressing like them, or move to Burlington) I mean
c'mon, just because you dislike a few songs, doesn't make you any less of a
Phan...Now what I DO disagree with, is that guys post about not liking any
song by Trey..I would not consider him a Phan to the slightest, hell almost
all Phishs' songs are by Trey, or at least collaberated with Trey...
I personally consider this whole "phan" thing stupid...I mean if you like
the music for what it is, and not for the drugs etc...then who cares if they
don't have 500+ hours of Live shows..I see a real comparison between This
whole "Whose a real Phan, and whos not" and the current situation over in
Israel. The orthodox jews, are considering the Reform, or less observant
Jews, Not "real Jews." unless they are Kosher, go to temple every day,
etc...It's questionable, but I don't think there is a Right or Wrong
answer...Whatever, I don't really know where I'm going with this..enough
babbling.

Wo wo wo wo.....Yem? Just a bunch of Fragments?...Now I'm not a serious
musician, but IMO that is the best composed song Trey has ever written,
beatiful tempo switches, if that's what you are trying to say. Certainly NOT
a bunch of fragments that ended up working out...

i would bet that that was supposed to be a joke....
it sure seems a lot of people are taking it seriously...

to be honest though, I dont really care much for Tweezer

I don't know what it is, Caspian is just so un-phish like. Very boring,
especially in the past couple of years...10 minutes of two chords, just
not my idea of exciting music considering the tempo never changes. I've
been seeing Phish for almost 3 years and I've only seen one Caspian-
Madison, WI, 98- total buzz kill- luckily a naked dude jumped on the
stage. That shook things up a bit.

I think everyone is taking this a little too far. Sure there are some songs
that I don't like too much (Fikus, Lifeboy), but thats not the point. You may
not like the song, but obviously someone does if the band is still playing
them. Songs have different meanings for people, but what counts most is what
the songs mean to the band. I'm not saying that "what songs don't you like" is
a bad discussion, but to say "how the hell can Phish play this song, especially
as an encore" shows that you have no respect for the band or for the thousands
of other phans who might actually like the song.

You cant even put a diss on piper?!?! ive never been one to bash others, but
piper brings a show to another level. espcially in '97; it had some high
quality real-estate. It was at a junction to make or break a show, and it
always made it. Can't get enough PIPER!!!!!!!

oh yes, it sucks. Of course, that's IMO. >I"m not gonna bash you, but

Ok, since you asked... I think it's a twofold reason why it sucks.
First, the words... over and over and over and over and over and over
and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over
and over and over and over. It goes nowhere, and really fast. Perhaps
singing it about half as many times would make it much more bearable.
Secondly, the music is redundant. That is to say, the whole song is a 5
chord progression, that goes nowhere. All it does is start out soft and
just gets louder.... any high schooler who bangs around on a guitar can
do that just as good. I'd rather see/hear Trey shredding up some
intense solo than to hear him play bar chords all night (like in caspian
also). Hell, even an amatuer like ME can play Piper. One final
thing... they never know when to end it. So it goes on and and on and
on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on
and on and on and on and on and on and on and just like th Energizer
Bunny. Just a big 6 minutes of suck if you ask me, which you did.
Where's the musical talent that got me hooked? Songs like these are for
beginners (musicans, not fans) aaron

Harpua is awesome, except for some cheesy lyrics. Just b/c it doesn't
fit into what is traditonally considered a good organized song, doesn't
mean it isn't great. I love harpua b/c of it's odd structure. I think
fish plays an incredibly weird time signature in this song, don't
remeber what it is. I think bad songs are simple pop ditties, that don't
take risks w/ odd song structure.

Sorry man...been a musician for half my life and I still love it. That half my
life probably equals a whole of yours. I doubt you can play the song like they
can and I KNOW you can't make it sound as good. I'm not saying you're a moron
for liking the song...I'm saying your reasoning is moronic. But then again,
people don't really need to ask for reasons anyway. You just don't hear what
other people are hearing and that's layers and buildup and beauty...if you want
complexity, go listen to Rush. I'm sure Geddy Lee would be delighted to play
his 7/4 to 5/8 to 13/16 to 7/8 ballad about the chips in the computer that
control Tom Sawyer. The song has a great melody and is based around feel and
emotion-something they don't teach you at robot school...flame away but they
tend not to affect me. Especially when folks get angry and just rant about
things that make no sense and completely DON'T pertain to me, but you can try.
Now go back to your life and pretend my opinion never occured. Thank you.

I think the t/s is 7/5 or 9/8 or 7/6, something crazy like that. I know there
are 7 beats in the measure, so I guess that would eliminate the 9/8. Maybe
someone knows for sure?

Harpua section is 7/8.
the section before "storm's gone" is 5/4
There is no such thing as 7/5 or 7/6
If you want strange time signatures, go to dream theater. 19/16 in metropolis,
11/4 in under a glass moon.
Hope this helps
