ok everyone, i was listening to Howard Stern this morning and someone called
his show with a quote from Nostradamus that was pretty much predicting the
events of yesterday. it had something about "in the city of York, the twin
brothers fall..."

i'd like to get the exact quote (translation) but i can't find it, and i don't
remember it.

if someone was listening this morning, or is familiar with the writings of
Nostradamus, please let me know what was said

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

ps - sorry if i spelled Nostradamus wrong!!!!!!!

I somehow doubt that nostradamus referred to "the city of New York" way back
when. All of his real predictions are incredibly broad...no names of futuristic
cities or the like (from what i've ever seen). If it was on Stern, you can be
pretty sure it's a hoax to begin with.

peace,

remember we'd all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was - and drive and
drive. I'm not sure where we'd go, but I think there were some trees there. The
smell of something was strong in the air as we played whatever sport we played. I
remember a bigger, older guy we called "Dad." We'd eat some stuff, or not, and
then I think we went home. I guess some things never leave you." --Jack Handy

First off, anyone who knows anything about Nostradamus knows that he predicted
an attack from a third Tyrant (first was Napolean, 2nd was Hitler). He said
that the man would wear a turban and would hide underground. He says this
third tyrant in the antichrist and is far worse than Hitler. The attack he
spoke of was to the "New City". It is true that America wasn't in existence,
but he said the correct coordinants to where the New City was. He did mention
attacks by air and that the two brothers would fall. When I watched this
happen yesterday (I live in NYC) I immediately thought of Nostradamus. He had
originally predicted for this to happen in 1999. It didn't and I was relieved.
Now it has hit and I am worried, for the rest of his predictions on this
matter lead to a 3rd world war and much destruction. For those of you who
don't believe this, that's fine, but don't condemn the opinions of those who
do. After all, just watch the movie "The Man Who Saw Tomorrow", narrated by
Orson Welles. (1980) Not only do they mention this prediction, but they even
say "this may mean New York City's twin towers."

May we all be safe

He also said "we'll sell no wine, before its time." Orson Welles, that is,
not Nostradamus. Also, "Rosebud."

you shouldn't believe everything you see on TV, howie.

i studied the writings of nostradamus and many other "prognosticators"
throughout history in college, and the actual history related to the
predictions.

nostradamus-like literature falls into two categories:
1. extremely vague "predictions" that are totally open to a wide range of
interpretation. In Nostradamus' case, usually only one of which is presented
by the media, or in movies/ tv shows.
2. texts that were written AFTER an event occured, but written to appear as
prophecy. Almost all bible "prophecies" were written this way. (remember,
up until the last 500yrs or so, books and scrolls were HANDWRITTEN, and
obviously, not readily available or distributed)

An example of #1, applied to Nostradamus:
The "Hitler" prediction you mention is totally false.
Nostradamus uses the name "Hister" in that passage. "Hister" happens to be
a river that runs basically right throught Nostradomus' town. He could just
as easily be talking about flooding river banks.

I'm a little to tired to write a 10page paper on this, but if i ever find my
notebooks from that class, I'll post some more examples of Nostradomus'
"predictions" as they are widely believed AND some alternate historical
facts that wipe out any credibility of the story.

All I have to say in response to what I'm sure are well-taken notes is that you
shouldn't believe everything you read in class.

i'm just saying, you can't look at one side of these make-believe stories,
that's all.
and i'm sure the orsen welles narrated show was chock full of truth.

actually, the leonard nimoy-narrated nostradomus show was far better, imo.

gil,
worst note-taker ever.
