Flame me as much as you want. I have been on the bus since I first saw Phish
in 1989. I can not believe how die-hard or diplomatic you are if you sit
down and play these livephish boards something is wayyy wrong in Dodge!!

Oh my god! Is this the same band?? Was that really Phish onsatge in NYC and
Hampton?? Seriously it was way,way off all over the place the timing the
guitars were out of tune.. Listen to Mound from Hampton-whoah the chirping
guitar after the opening bit is out of tune and off beat (even though it is
counter tempo to begin with)..
....

Then I punch over to "Maze" this is simply a joke- Trey's voice is hoarse
and out of tune- the band is off all over- and what in god's name happened
to Trey' s guitar sound- it sounds like he is playing a goddamn radio shack
$99.00 electric through a boom-box or something..

I have seen Phish on a off-night (32 shows total) and in reality I have only
really ever been able to say that I heard some off-tunes. This is really
concerning me- these shows were straight up BEAT sounding.. Some blame has
to be given to the "warts and all" flat soundboards that were offered for
download these are really direct boards absolutely NO sweetning here....

I hope the shows I am going to in feb are not oging to be this bad or I am
gonna get off the bus for awhile...

Yeah and I know then get off the bus --balh, blah, blah,,

You can honestly for example play the Maze for example from the Vegas DVD
then play the Maze from Hampton 2003 and tell me that they are even int he
same ballpark???

This was 100% Phish, totally on par, up to speed, playing their hearts
out????

COME ON!

Man I was hoping that the hiatus would not put this huge Wedge between era's
of Phish much like the "decades" did with the Dead-but it seems that Phish
really needs to go full tilt- and do a Spring Tour, a full Summer Tour the
works and get this train back ont he rails again- or should I say "off the
rails".

it wasn't about the song selection or how well they played, it was all about
the VIBE in the room.

You people really need to relax, what do you really expect from a band that
hasn't played in 2.5 years. Do you realize how many songs they have and
only had like 4 months to practice them. They probably only practiced a
handfull of the songs together, considering that they probably focused
mainly on the new songs. They'll be fine by the Feb. tour, get a grip.
When you get to the point that you actually get seriously pissed off that
they fuck up here and there, you need to stop listening for a while and take
a break. I actually kinda like it, it's raw sounding.

And hey, if you have any extras that you don't want now, cuz they suck, pass
them this way!

BTW, I was at NYE, and it rocked!

Finally someone who hears what I hear in the past 4 shows. Trey sounds
like he's playing straight into his Fender amp on the overdrive
channel. Doesn't sound like his TS-9's to me. Cheap!! Weak!! Flame on,
all in denial!!!

I went to the Radio City Music Hall shows in 2000, and then saw Phish
again at the end of the tour on the West Coast. Now I loved the RCMH
shows, because of the 'vibe' in the room- the fact that they hadn't
played in almost 6 months- the fact that I hadn't seen them live in 2
years- but the show that I was at and the shows that I have heard from
the end of the tour are much better. We all know that the band
rehearses hard, but they still are just getting into the swing of
things and I'm sure will just improve. From all being in different
groups, their playing and listening has got to have changed, and it's
going to take time for the new Phish to develop.
Hold onto those Feb tix, brother! I'm sure that things will get better
and better.

i thought the band sounded like they were playing music and
improvising and stretching out and taking chances. i would rather hear
a mistake here or there and moments of brilliance than to hear a band
play it completely safe. i think some folks are just pissed off
because the band is different than the band they remember "back when
the were good/didn't sell out/played because they loved it/blah blah
blah" the band sounds like it's playing a hell of a lot more with EACH
OTHER now than back then. page and mike and fish take up a a lot more
room now than they used to. well, except for the funk years...then
again, this is just my humble opinion. i mean, your opinion could be
completely different. it's okay. maybe you have grown up and moved on
from phish. it's okay to dislike a band after liking them intensely. i
would suggest that you take a hiatus for yourself and not see any
shows until the band is playing up to the level that you expect. this
way there will be more tix for me (in which case i am happy) and
nobody has to DRAG you to the show to see a "lackluster" performance.
see? everyone's happy. :)
oh. and there isn't an "overdrive channel" on deluxe reverbs from the
late 60's...the sound is all screamers...the closed back 4x12 might
have something to do with the sound being less "fendery" personally, i
thought the sound was fantastic...i dig the "on the edge of feedback
explosion" vibe...very hendrix, but more focussed...
okay, remember...this is just my $.02
have a good one...

Hampton kicked ASS mofo. The energy was unbelievable and i thought
there were some truly great jams, mixed with the flubs, that makes
methink they are ready to slowly conquer the world in a new way.

Ryan,
I feel for you my friend, I was at all the shows and the energy among the crowd
was something I can only equate to Vegas 2000...and your trying to compare it
to an irish pub on NYE?...haha you lost all credibility there my friend.

You should listen to 1/2, it is easily my favorite night of the four. I know
exactly what you are talking about, and for some reason it doesn't happen
nearly as much on 1/2.

People, we're not criticizing Phish as a whole, or trying to be high and
mighty, I think people are just disappointed because let's face it, a band that
we are used to playing well, just didn't play very well at all for a heaping
portion of these shows. Feb. will be interesting.

As for the people talking about the "vibe" in the room--the vibe at the Irish
pub my ticketless friends and I went to on NYE was killer and we were just
listening to some dudes playing acoustic versions of old Elvis songs and stuff.
People were dancing and having a great time. I was somewhat jealous of the
folks who were at the Garden and I surely would have switched places with any
of them, but after hearing especially 1/3&4 it was hard to be too jealous.

Throughout the whole run, especially Trey, started songs in the wrong keys
(even standards like Auld Lang Syne!!!) played wrong notes and hit wrong chords
like they were going out of style. He completely blew YEM and then suggested
that they were blowing it as a band. The only reason people are concerned is
not because we're trying to trash Phish; quite the contrary. We know they're
capable of so much better. Watch the Vegas DVD or listen to the last Shoreline
before the hiatus. That is a band that is in command and on top of their game.
Phish during the NYE run (except for 1/2) was a band that was so freakin' rusty
you could hear 'em squeaking. Guys, we waited two years. If you need more
practice time, we could certainly wait a little longer. I hope these shows
were just about getting the kinks out and warming back up, because as of
now--here's hoping this Trey/Vida thing goes down in April. Trey's band is the
real deal. I saw 'em four times and they kicked my face in, each and every
time.

See you guys in Feb.

Dude,

I have seen more shows than you have and the 2nd night of hampton---> 1/3/03
was easily one of my favorite shows. I guess you weren't there to see it, so
stop crying. I am sure you'll be there in feb and summer tour. Sucker....

haaaa. i was in for 1/3 and 1/4. the last night didn't quite do it for me,
but i wasn't pissed. it was worth the 12 hour ride down there for either set
from 1/3. the more people who are turned off, the happier i am.
