Hi All:

Anyone ever try to work this out? I picked a fairly popular YouTube
clip and did. I counted 7 different time signatures, if you count the
17 that extends into 21. Not sure about a couple though, particularly
the first and third ones. Anyone like to have a stab at correcting me?

0:00 5/4
0:13 3/4
1:13 : 7/4
1:25 4/4 emphasis on 3rd beat quiet part
4.01: 4/4 charlie brown-ish bit
4:46 15 beat cycle or 7.5
5:06 17 beat cycle single speed once through, then several times at
double speed 4 times. 3-3-3-3-3-2
5:31 Last cycle of this is a 21 beat cycle as they play 7 x 3 beats.
5:38 4/4 time jazzy funky
6:29 after 4/4 guitar break jazzy funky jam but this time in 7/4
7:11 build up in 4/4
7:32 boy man god shit in 4/4 funk

Well, being a non musician I don't know doodly squat (heh, when was
the last time y'all heard that, doodly squat! LOL!) about time
signatures, but I gotta tell yas, since yesterday I've watched this
video of YEM five times straight through (that's almost two hours
worth!). It's the official band release in stunning HiDef, shot with
multiple cameras, taken from the 7/2/10 Charlotte show. The one where
they do the Proud Mary and Get Back in the vocal jam . . . yeah, I
know this isn't what you were looking for, but frankly this version
and this vid is just too good to not be mentioning it in almost *any*
thread that contains a reference to YEM!

Ya gotta check out the look on Trey's face at around 4:01. How can
anybody not love this guy??? How about at 2:06 . . . and then again
at 6:40 . . . just sayin' . . .

Hey Blair, sorry for stepping on your thread, I'm just very excited
about YEM these days (especially after yesterday's YEM, another great
one!), and besides, there's only like 3 or 4 people here anyway, but
two of them play the bass and they may jump in anyway . . .

At least three bass players here actually now that I think about it.

Anybody here play guitar besides me? Hahaha I think I am going to
attempt to learn YEM.

Oh man, great thread subject, but why did you have to do this while
I'm supposed to be working. Time sigs (esp Phish) are a passion of
mine. I've been through YEM before and to this day there is still one
section I've never had the patience to figure out. But now I must!
However, I'm going to do the responsible thing here and get to my
reply later tonight when my work is done and the kids are in bed. I'm
betting Dave or others will beat me to a reply, but in the end, I
suspect we may all have slightly different interpretations on all the
glorious time sig changes in YEM. Marcman, you should throw out some
guesses anyway. C'mon.

Mean time, here's an easy one (that still may end up with various
interpretations). What are the time sigs in the SOAM jam?

So are there any guitar players out there? I've got the keys covered.
Maybe someday we should have a pre-show parking lot jam with three
bass players and three Jeffs.

=============================
I am a bass guy, been playing for 26 years, but I have played guitar for 22
of those, so in a pinch I can do the guitar thing.

J, who is a Jeff as well.

We can start a band and call ourselves The Jeffs...like the reverse
Ramones, everyone goes by Jeff.

We almost named a band The Shitty Mikes one time....it was a low budget
affair and we didn't have one decent microphone.

I've got percussion. How about Burning Jeff, or The Burning Jeffs?
Could be a double entendre, no?
