Great new thread, Darius.

Easily - 12/8/95 CSU Convocation Center: Come Together->
A Day In The Life

It was just so cool that they did that on the 15th anniversary of Lennon's
assasination. Gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Also totally made up for
what could have been a rather mediocre show. $0.02...

I'd say some of the best encores would have to be 4-21-94 Winston Salem
Drums>Jam> All Along the Watchtower with entire DMB. You want to talk
about NUTS!!!! 10-16-94 Encore 1 Highway to Hell Encore2 HARPUA!
Any FREEBIRD encore. Halloween 95 sorry to disagree but that encore was
GREAT. I guess I just love that song and to hear it bluegrass style just
was the best.

WMGGW at Boisie 6/6/95 and A Day in the Life 6/10/95 at Red Rocks were
really cool - the first time. Then they started doing them all over the
place. Pretty much any Coil encore is good news. The Rockytop GoodXBadX
on 12/30/93 is high on my list, but I think my favorite so far is...
Halley's Comet, Tweezer Repriser Sugarbush 7/2/95. Talk about rockin!

How about 15 years to the MINUTE that John Lennon was killed, Trey
dedicates the encore to "wanting to send a little love out to someone" and
they bust out Come Together followed by A Day in the Life. In Cleveland
no lees, home of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Memorable moment!

The best encore I have ever heard was 6/19/95 at Deer Creek. The boys
played a killer version of "A day in the life". It really caught me by
surprise. Page sang the first part and then Trey came in later on. They
ended it with a little bit of a phish like jam. It was quite the encore.

Oh, I don't know...it was much different if you were there. While I agree
that it was largely anti-climactic, it was still pretty cool. Nothing like
a little humor and fun to wrap up a long night of intense music....

What could they have possibly done to make for an amazing end to such an
amazing show? -Anything- they might have played that night would seem at
least somewhat anti-climactic....

HOW about 12/15/95
probably not the best of all time, but GTBT->Tweeprise was the
most energy I hjave ever witnessed at a show in my life. The transition
was subtle but the oh so powerful.

Well, how about 7/1/95 - Funky Bitch. Trey rambled about the
tourheads following them all over the country and always asking for
it. He also rapped about how excited they were to be back near home.
How's that for warm and fuzzy?

Ah, just what I was a gonna spit out for my favorite encore...

Laguna Seca Daze, Monterey, CA 5/28/94

Among the most fun I will ever have at a PHiSH show, all the while camping a
most beautiful weekend in the magical hills of Laguna Seca...first show on the
rail, and after our long and loud chant of "One More Set!" we get the encore:

Wilson, Golgi Ap, Rocky Top

after which they leave. But it being only 8pm or so this late spring
evening, nobody was going anywhere. So the band returns, without Trey. Fish
and Mike start a little groove, to which Fish sings "the guitar player's
taking a leak....the guitar player's taking a leak..." until Trey runs out,
goofy grin and all. "Thanks everybody...pause in tour...we just wanna keep
on playing!" And the encore continues, with

Harry Hood (!!!), Good Times Bad Times.

More stunning than a blow in the forehead with a 2x4...

Back from the south at last,

Marco

I have to second the vote for LSD, 5-29-94. After the 3 song first =
encore, HARRY!!! Are you kidding me!!! Thought this show might never =
end. And a great scene altogether. Hands down best encore I've seen. =
This includes the NYE Johnny B. Goode, which, BTW, rocked HARD!!!

i guess i'd have to comment on the best encore id ever seen, that
would be

12-15-95 - philadelphia....GTBT->Tweezer rep

admitedly, it doesn't look real good on paper (or on a monitor for
that matter), but i have never seen such a loud, intense, long encore,
not to mention the _absolutely flawless_ segue from GT to Tweezerep in
30 shows over seven years. yeah there are better songs to hear for an
encore, slave, harry etc..., but this was the most intense in my
memory

I don't mean to nitpick, but you are describing the 5/29/94 show.
On 5/28/94, they played one encore song, Poor Heart.

Jack -

It's funny, because I WAS AT THE WEEN SHOW (5th row center), and I STILL
think that the encore was really anti-climactic. I get a few emails a
day saying "Well, if you were THERE, you would feel differently." Well,
you're wrong, I don't. I understand if YOU do, but for me, My
Generation was funny, entertaining, and a stunning tribute to the Who,
but compared to the rest of the show, a huge disappointment.

Many people have emailed me saying that since the rest of the show was
so great, why do I care if the encore wasn't great musically? My answer
to that is this: The whole 'Ween '95 show is incredible, encore and
all. But that doesn't mean that the encore wasn't disappointing to me.
It was, compared to the rest of the wonderful evening.

So, I stand by my post of being very let down by the ENCORE of Ween '95.
