They refer to him as psycho, but anyone who knows who Greg is will be
tipped off by the reference to him, and true stories of him. I cracked up,
this guy (though he is a good guy) is quite the psycho, take away his front
row space and he will freak, threaten to kick your ass. That Bernstien and
Co. would dis such a "famous" (I'm straining credibility) member of the
Phish tour community alone gets them my respect. The new version is
actually quite well done. I echo what others have said in saying that it
is the fan written stuff that makes this worth reading, not the setlists
that are available anywhere.

why is he a respected/famous member of the tour community? because he is at
every show? the unfortunate interaction i had with him this summer revealed to
me that he is a complete jackass. maybe he is a "good guy," but i have trouble
getting over an extremely negative first impression of someone. i hardly need
the pharmer's almanac to point out the obvious for me. i think a decent
indication that our "scene" is getting out of hand would be the fact that there
is a "famous" member of the touring community who will freak and threaten to
kick your ass if you take away his front row space. watch out for his
girlfriend too, she's not as sweet as she looks. waiting for the flames . . .

no flames. they broke up, they were, however, meant for each other. he is
famous only in a dubious way. the only person who could get into a fight after
Stuttgart of all shows. we call him freakboy to add to his list of knicknames.

Here's some more fuel for the fire. Antelope Greg is without question is the
biggest asshole I have ever encountered at a Phish show. He absolutely
disgusts me. In London, at the RAH show, he had the gall to tell everyone near
him in the front row to spread out so he could have enough space to dance
(spastically gyrate). Apparently, he needs more space than 5 people normally
need to dance. And I wouldn't be so harsh if this guy had front row seats for
the first time in his life. To the contrary, he was front and center, with his
possessed girfriend, afflicted with a similar distemper, at EVERY single show.
The rumor was that he helped the crew out with set-up or something and got in
early because of this.
And to make things worse, the Lille Antelope (a damn good one) was
dedicated by Trey to this scumbag. Apparently the band doesn't know how much
of an asshole he is. I saw him at the 12/13 show 5th or 6th row center. I bet
the ungrateful bastard was pissed he wasn't in the 1st row.
It is a real shame that someone who is lucky enough to position himself in
the front row at every Europe show would insist that he have enough space for 5
people. Maybe I should feel sorry for him.

I remember that, everyone was like "what the f-ck"?!? At the first Dublin show,
I was sitting on the floor with a bunch of folks and the guy rushes by and
kicked over my beer, didn't bother to stop and apologize, et cetera. I saw him
at the Went and said (I thought in a funny voice) "Hey man, you still owe me a
beer from Dublin" and he jumps in my face and and spastically goes "yeah, you
gonna make me?" as if to start a fight!

What a loser! Oh well, at least there are a few hundred thousand cool people
going to shows to balance him out.

Who in the hell is Antelope Greg? Is he affiliated with the band or just a

Greg is an "orthodox" tourhead, like the old men (Jews will understand me,
and I think most religions have the equivalent), who must sit in the same
place in the synagogue at every service, and will tell people to move. He
has been at every show since Spring 94, every single show. From what I
know, he supports himself with his Antelope products (many of which are
stolen designs, including even the original sticker all the way up to the
Forbin/Ford shirts/hats), as well as being, well, a very rich kid, probably
a spoiled bray who Mommy and Daddy send on tour for fear of a temper
tantrum. Don't get me wrong, Greg isn't a bad guy, I think he is simply
VERY MENTALLY ILL, and can only find sanity in the front row of a show,
wearing his shades. He is the guy (you must have seen him) with the Slash
(G'n'R) type long blonde curly hair, selling the Antelope products.

Some of my experiences with Greg:
Sugarbush '95 - he physically forced me from his rail seat, when I took it
back he complained to security, they said "Too bad, Greg, its a general
admission show". He spent the whole show telling me how "schwag" I am.
Later, I met him, he actually apologized, but it wouldn't be the last time
I was a victim of his wrath.

Most Recently -
Nuremburg '97 -
I was right next to Greg, and made the mistake of blowing cigarrette smoke
near him (which is rude, and I apologized), he flipped so loud that some
tapes can pick it up.

Now I know what mental illness can do. Coming from a family of two
shrink-parents, I realize that Greg MUST have a serious
obsessive-compulsive disorder, and is in need of medication :) But
seriously, this guy is a nice guy when it comes down to it, but is also the
biggest prick on Phish tour, bar none.
Oh - I didn't tell you when he kicked friends of mine out of his car so he
could "travel alone", leaving people stranded in Seattle at the last
minute.

We'll having been on tour the ast few years and seeing every show also of tour
(minus europe and flynn which greg saw) I had a few run-in's with the the
"Antelope". Even though he know's my name and we talked everyday on lot last
year in March I think when Letterman played in the city I figured I would just
go down there and wait on stand by, I get downt here pretty early and who is
the first person I see, Antelope Greg and his girl of course. I asked him about
Europe and I said to him, "How are the new song's they been playin Greg?", and
he replie's...."why the hell does everyone ask me that, get the freakin
tape's"... I found that to be kind fo snotty coming from a kid who I talk to
everyday, and by the way he isnt that old to the phish community that eh can be
"GOD OF ALL", he saw his first show in 92 I beleive, same year I saw mine. But
anyways we were standing near the back entrance and the band hopped out of
there limo and Trey get's out and I am standing there next to Greg and Trey
just looks and greg, smiles points to him and walks in. Somehoe Greg got into
letterman, he didnt have a ticket or anything but he got in. He got in the
flynn show also , the kid is defintely commited....and rich, he doesnt miss any
show's. Sometime's though you can catch him ni a good mood, I guess it
depend's what hes on that night, he is a very funny person to watch dance
though if youre looking from above, looks like he thinks hes an antelope or
landing a plane or something, No wonder why Trey like's him, there is
definitely no one else like "Antelope Greg".

I just recently got a first look at the almanac and I would have to say, I'm
led to believe that they could easily make up a lot of the articles based on
what they hear and not have to actually do any work. The part of the book that
got me the most was the top 5 other bands that phish fan's love. Grateful Dead
and Santana both happened to not be on that list and yet somehow Leftover
Salmon a not so well known band was? I know a lot of it must have been a pain
to organize like the setlists, but once you have all that, it's the same all
the time. Plus the Gamhenge stuff was pretty basic stuff except could be
infomative to those who haven't heard T.M.W.S.I.Y. But this book is for Phans,
not people who don't know jack about phish. I've also heard from a friend that
the almanac is hard to find in stores which doesn't fully suprise me but makes
me think that, a lot of people probably consider this to be a helpful thing,
but isn't it just as useful as the internet and just as hard to access as the
internet only you pay more for this? Having only seen the 4th edition for only
10 minutes and not reading the whole thing, I don't think my opinion is fully
correct but that top 5 lingers in my mind as just not being true. I donno, it's
too big a book and probably has too many people's approval for me to actually
win this argument I just proposed. oh well.

Nickthe7

PS why were there 3 editions last year and only one so far this year? I
especialy disliked the order form on back that told me how many pages were in
each book. Are we supposed to base our desire of one book over the other on how
many pages are in each book?

I really think people are reaching with this apparently Obligatory
Hatred of the Pharmers Almanac. Example: I consider myself a Phan, but
a relativly new one. I found the Gamehenge info enlightening, as
there's only so much you can pick up from people's references,
especially all those who assume that *duh*, everyone knows all about
Gamehendge, dood. I found the little blurbs on the albums also
enlightening. Example: I knew Rift was a 'concept' album, but I didn't
know what that concept was. PA told me. I'm not saying that the
Almanac is the end-all-be-all of the Phish community, but PLEASE PLEASE
remember that all of us who share a love of all things Phish are Phans,
but some of us haven't heard every song in 20 iterations, or know the
full history of the band, or own all the albums and 300+hours. PA is a
great resource for me. It makes great potty reading (pun intended) and
I really enjoy hearing the stories and reviews. I myself use the web a
good deal, but I only have it at work. My tapes are at home. When I am
listening to a tape and want to read a little review, PA is right there.
When I wanted to find out the name of the woman singing on 3-18-97, PA
was right there on my coffee table.
And just as an added aside: Other Things I Could Have Done with My $16
1. Gotten 1/2 a haircut (I am female and live in DC--very expensive)
2. Bought a discount CD (now that normal ones sell for $20+)
3. Taken a friend to eat at a deli (I make sandwiches just fine myself,
thanks)
So really, I think I got a pretty good deal.
Another note: I have seen very few voice approval, and many jump on
another bashing-bandwagon (what is the attraction?).
So, I am voicing my approval. I think the book looks great, is a fun
read (no, it will not solve the Secrets of Life Everlasting, but...), is
useful to a computer (at home)-less somewhat newbie like myself, and is
really just pretty harmless.
Just my $.02

knows, so why buy ANY books anymore? Its just a waste of money...)

Right on Cressida,
I think the Pharmer's Almanac is quite a nice source for the new, up and coming
Phishhead. This I think scares people. More people on the scene to compete with
for tickets and stuff like that. I am not saying that I am impressed with the
Pharmer's Almanac. It's basically Deadbase with Phish stats and a few to many
comments for me, but everyone has their own preference. I liked using the
Helping Friendly Book when I fisrt started out taping, but found it lacked to
much, but it was great at the time. The Pharmer's Almanac is the reverse. Then
again, that's my opinion. One more thing, we as Phishheads seem to share and
try things a lot before we buy them, if you don't like your friend's copy of
the Pharmer's Almanac, just don't buy one.
Keep on keepin on,

Ok so this is pure speculation but, I was in the 4th row 11/3/96 and a guy
fitting this exact description kept dancing wildly flailing his arms and
hitting me then complaining that I was invading his space, and that he has a
much better understanding of his needs as far as personal space and I was the
one getting in his way. I *love* the music but do not always express it
through dancing, rather standing in a sort of enraptured meditative state,
this was one of those times. His constant badgering was *really* annoying.
Thus whoever this person was nearly ruined that experience for me, in any case
it was not one of my favorite shows.

I'm not going to bash Greg, and I'm for damn sure not going to defend him.
He freely admits to being the biggest asshole you could ever encounter at a
Phish show. All I can say is he cares about exactly one thing and that is
his personal connection with the energy present at a Phish show. That's
pretty selfish and he doesn't care what anyone thinks about it. Realize
that
about him and you will get along great. If you let yourself get upset with
him
he will make you ten times as upset as you need or want to be because he
is the one of the most obnoxious characters I have ever met. As for the
bands opinion of him, they definitely know he is a nuisance to other fans,
but Trey personally gave him pretty much a seal of approval in Europe.
This is before the famous Antelope dedicated to him. After the Copenhagen
show, Greg and I saw Trey by himself and for the first time went to thank
him. Before either of us could say anything, Trey said (as word for word as
I can remember it) "Greg, thanks for coming over, I really had a bonding
experience with you the other night. <Greg was right in Trey's face through
the entire Hamburg show, literally five feet from him> Playing music
wouldn't be the same without you, don't go anywhere anytime soon.<I assumed
this meant don't stop touring>" There was a handshake going on through this
entire greeting. I was speechless and for the only time that I can think of
so was Greg. I've been to almost 200 shows myself and it was like Trey
didn't even see me(not that I'm so cool that Trey should acknowledge me
too...). Greg didn't know that Trey knew his name at the time. Then a week
later after the Letterman show he called me to tell me about the further
acknowledgement from Trey that was mentioned by someone. I'm not saying
that all this means Greg is cool and has some right to be an asshole at
shows. I repeat ... I'm not saying that all this means Greg is cool and has
some right to be an asshole at shows. He was an asshole at about 200 shows
before having this happen but I don't think his ego was exactly squashed by
the incident. I guess I'm not saying anything really, I'm just entering the
view point of a friend of Greg. He really just wants to be left alone at
shows and that of course given his nature is impossible. Also I should say
I might have been exaggerating when I said he cares about exactly one thing,
he called me from tour to let me know that he could give me rides to shows
or airports anytime I made it to a show. I think he actually felt bad that I
was missing a whole tour because of school and was doing what ever he could
to help out. A nugget of acceptance. Whatever, Greg's not going anywhere,
he'll be at the next Phish show you see wherever in the world that is,
hopefully if you encounter him you haven't broken his secret code of Phish
show behavior because if you have he will let you know about it in freakish
fashion and you won't like him at all.

Scott

PS for the record he was not at the Woodstock show or the first six Santana
opening sets in 96. And he did have a ticket for Letterman.

This little fuck has some nerve. I saw him this summer at Starlake
and he was going off about how somebody else was selling his Antelope
shit. He was saying " dude, I have been on tour since 94",blah blah
blah. Wow 94 your old school Greg. I have been seeing them since 88 and
touring since 91 back when this little prick was in junior high and its
people like him who keep my old school friends from even coming now. The
Antelope design he sells is actually a rip off of Sean and Drews
original. Big deal he hasnt missed a show since whenever, he is an
obnoxious little brat who, THANK GOD, did not start coming around until
94.

Hey,
Just curious. How the hell does Trey know this guy so well? I mean, I'm
sure he is a familiar face being at every damn show, but I've heard lots of
stories about Trey talking to him and shit. Could this be someone hired by the
band to piss everyone off to give the band a little laugh midset?

I guess my only question about Greg is: How the Hell do you see every show
since 1994? How is it possible? Do you need to get a job where you can take
leaves of absence every few months? Do you even *have* a job? Who pays for
Airfare to Europe? I've been eating pasta since Sunday (for breakfast too)
because I'm so broke. I mean I like Phish but 200 shows - That's a lot of
Prince Caspians, and Bouncins... :-)'

My question is how long will it be before he get's in the wrong
person's face and cops an attitude and gets what's coming to him... a
nice punch in the jaw. Now, I'm not one to advocate violence (and
ESPECIALLY not at a show of all places) but if what I read is true, that
is EXACTLY what this guy needs. He has no right to treat people like
this, and if it were me who he constantly (let me emphasize constantly,
I take a lot of abuse from people at all sorts of show, shit happens...
a bump here and there, etc...) I would sure as hell let him know what I
thought about him. No one is better than anyone else at a show, and we
all have a right to be there and to be treated with the same respect we
expect from others. That means you don't shove people out of your way
so you have more room to dance. Anyway, I'm sure eventually it will all
catch up to him. I just hope it's not at a show, because there's
nothing sadder than negative vibes at a show. I'm sure phish shows
aren't the only places he exhibits behavior like this. Let him get his
ass kicked elsewhere :)

First of all, I'm curious what the "top 5 other bands" were, if
someone knows could the post them?

Second, I know this topic has been posted on before, but what are the
top 5 other bands that Phish fans listen to? Like I said, these type
of threads are nothing new, but I really like them, because when I see
that a Phish fan likes band X, I'll often go check the band out, and
in the past these bands which I check out almost on a whim have come
to be some of my favorite groups to listen to. I'll start:

1. Grateful Dead
2. moe.
3. Pink Floyd
4. Santana
5. Jerry Garcia Band

Honorable mention:
Tom Petty
The Rentals
Natalie Merchant
Boston
Erasure

I personally don't think there is a top 5, period. I know people who love phish
but don't like a single other band I like. Personally I'm really big on
Santana, God Street Wine, They Might Be Giants, Frank Zappa and Blood Sweat and
