introduce myself. My name is Fluznof I am an inhabitant of the fifth moon on
Vulna eqaser. Please pardon my grammatical and verbal attack for the language
is new to me and I am learning as we go along. As I type Robbie Champion is
right by my side helping me learn the language. I believe he is using what you
humans call a “Dictionary” He is sitting here and communicating these words
one by one with each of their definitions. I should have the whole English
thing down by the end of the night. The use of my mouth is a skill that we
Slazors seldom use. We are direct descendants of the Plaidians and have
adapted the Minds eye mode of communication. It tends to be more direct and
genuine than verbal forms. This is in no way to offend any human who might
come across this. We respect your “race”. Why do you call it a race anyway?
Where are you people trying to get to and why are you trying to win it? You
are a very complicated people yet we have been bound to help all forms of life
on their quest for truth. This is the common law among the defenders of the
great Planet Mother. There is a much larger extended family that exists for
you outside of this atmosphere. We are trying to guide you along as best we
can but human error often gets in the way. I have decided to visit Robbie on
this day to speak to the chosen people…The Phunky Bitches….in order to offer up
some possible discussion on a subject which is often labeled as “a band with
silly, nonsensical lyrical prose” and maybe sift through that subtle texture to
open up a new perspective as to why Phish used this style in their early years.
Where I come from we play Scent of a Mule in the morning when we wake up out
of our pods and we end the day with the ceremonial 2001>Scent of A Mule. This
ritual usually takes place in the common union center in the villages on the
moon. If you listen very carefully you can here my brother Sqanku over in
Village Peargap screaming TAKE THOSE LASER BEAMS A WAY. Sqanku is a goofy guy.
Being A flum breed he doesn’t get out much so he uses these nightly feasts a s
a way of expression. Now some of you might be asking “Why Robbie?” Well you
see we have been working on him for quite some time now and he has almost made
it to the next level. He still has a looooong way to go though. Now I
understand there is a Sentient fellow who goes by the name of Starslog on this
digest?…….Excuse me, Robbie has informed me that the correct spelling is
Stardog. Stardog….We have been watching you very carefully and would like to
offer an open invite into our Stargate. All you have to do is perform the
ritual described above during the Summer Solstice. You are doing good
work….Keep it up. Anyone else can achieve this as well. Well I should get to
the point here.
PHISH AND SILLINESS…..There is Deeper meaning…Care to Comment StarDOG?
A lot of human beings that have studied the sacred text of Burlington will
associate the band with goofy lyrics and silly subjects. We are not denying
that. Instead we offer up the idea that this group of messengers have mastered
the art (especially in the earlier formative years) of subtle insinuation. It
has been argued that ALL songs are a part of Gamehendge. Some are obvious while
others are a little harder to find. Trey, Mike, Jon, and Page haven’t let us in
on the exact truth of this matter only to say that all the songs essentially
derive from the same thought pattern. As Gamehendge is a direct fetus of this
thought pattern it can be assumed that all songs written by the Phish
organization thus have flavors of Gamhendge whether or not they are minute…The
idea is embedded into all the songs whether it be by the words or the
composition. Sticking with this obvious theme of connection between what we
know as the phish saga, one can conclude that the studio works are connected as
well. The band has given us little insights as to the themes they have used
but do leave a lot up to interpretation. In order to understand our interest
in this you must first realize that Phish is a major part of our lives both
socially and professionally. It affects everything we do in a conscience and
subconscience matter. On the fifth moon we tend to live our lives as though
everything is connected (A theory that is just being cultivated here on your
earth) so this is a common thing that we discuss on a daily basis. It isn’t
over intensification nor is it fanatic behavior. It is simply a way of life and
music is a large part of that. We have been raised to be critical thinkers. It
is in our plasma. So lets look at the RIFT-HOIST connection.
Rift is full of imagery and dark themes. It is a story of one man and his
battle with the loss of lover, friend, and self. He struggles throughout the
album but at the end “sheds his skin” and creates a new life for himself.
“Sink my toes into the ground….and set a different course” There is betrayal,
awakenings, inspiration, Life decisions,depression, joyfulness, and a bit of
closure. If you look closely on the artwork of this album you will see symbols
all over it. For every song but one there is an image that is directly tied
into a track on the album. Examples include the knife (my friend my friend)
The jewelry (Sparkle) The mound, The maze (the floor underneath the bed)
Lengthwise, Weigh (the scale) and so on…It is not my job to tie all of this in
to a neat little package. It is my job to try to create critical thinkers.
Therefore it is YOUR job to look at the artwork and find the connections
yourself. Heck, if we told you everything than it wouldn’t be a challenge
right? So all the songs are there on the art work. Some on the cover and
others within the jewel case and liner notes. All but one song has a visual
image which connects the two. That song is The Horse………HERE IS WHERE THE GRAVY
GOES……..Now take a look at Hoist. What is on the cover? A horse being
“Hoisted” up by it’s torso. So there it is. Inside the context of Rift we await
HOIST. When we get HOIST the first thing us Plaedians did was rejoice in the
closure made by the band. The tale continues and before we even listened to the
teachings of HOIST we are given the visual connection between Rift and HOIST by
the closure of this symbol. This HAS been commented on by Trey in serious
interviews both on Earth and the moon. (the past two European Tours have been
massive practices in delusional Holograms..The fact is that the band was on
our moon on both occasions reviving their souls and teaching Guyute to our
children…It is in the creation contract that they made five years ago) Now I
am not gonna get into the STORY behind Hoist. Instead I want you to listen to
it in full and discuss it among yourselves. Critical Thinking……I will say in
short that the album deals with the aftermath of Rift. The girl has left
him…the relationship is severed..and so is his soul. He is dealing with the
aftermath of RIFT. He deals it with this separation in a couple of unhealthy
ways. He drinks too much (This leads to his self-inflicted death at the end of
HOIST when he gets in his car drunk and goes on a suicide mission down the road
all while SOAM is playing in his tape deck….I am assuming the car crash
literally Split him open…the Melting part probably has something to do with his
departure from this earth into the next level…Welcome home Mr. Groggy
Foggy….You won’t be needing help to your car anymore!!!!!!!!!!!) As well as
the excessive alcoholism we see other forms of destructive behavior throughout
HOIST. It’s there for you to pull out and explore if you want to. So yes the
band is silly (although they have switched gears as of late to be more blunt
about their serious side…which is a GOOD thing) but they used that silliness to
pursue a much larger message. The band is cerebral…They are all thinkers…The
play with our heads and toss a salad with our emotions. Would you like the
thousand island Imagery overload or the fat free Verbal vinaigrette? I would
recommend the Cranial Catalina….Throughout Hoist we witness the
self-destruction of a man in and out of love. A man with substance abuse
problems. A man on a path of destruction. So there it is ….a little
something to ponder. Other examples of Phish’s Silliness covering up a much
larger agenda can be found in even earlier works..Take a look at ESTHER!!!!!
Yeah it is a carnival theme and the music is light and goofy but for the love
of VULNA listen to the lyrics. Those words are anything BUT fun and
games…Knock out the five under-inflated balloons and win a prize..YEAH RIGHT!!!
Those lyrics are Dark and Disturbing and they flat out scare me…..I don’t know
about you but the last thing I want in my life is a crowd of angry villagers
hunting me down. Squirming Coil is another fine example.. I must go now my
wife is expecting me back with a slaughtered Calf and some wheat grain from t
he crop circle I just made. I was supposed to pick up some flour and sugar on
the way back but there just isn’t enough time for that….I have to fire up the
Anti-Matter Generator and get out of this planet. So I will give the keyboard
to Robbie and be on my Way….All good things brothers and sisters….All good
things….

Well that was interesting. Maybe I was just in a weird mood this morning. I
think it might have something to do with this poster in my bedroom. It is a
plaedian with his finger out stretched and the words “We’re out there”
underneath. It was the last thing I saw last night before I went to la la land
and I had a very odd dream about aliens last night. I apologize if this
freaked anyone out. I wasn’t practicing any sort of Multi-Personality disorder
I just felt a little goofy….See the connection? Phish can do that to me but
they can also be very serious. I hope that I performed maybe a little snippet
of what they boys we know and love perform on a much larger scale. Their
influence is in everything I do including talking and communicating with
people. I do believe there is a Rift Hoist connection and I was wondering what
other people thought about this obvious connection. Trey has stated that both
HOIST and RIFT are concept albums and that they are connected. I believe the
interview took place right after HOIST came out. Well I had a lot of time to
write crap this week. I have been working in the mornings at my Fathers
Machining Factory and I really have nothing to do here. I am getting 15.00
dollars an hour to sit on my ass and create a web page for his company. I am
NOT complaining. However I am off to school now (my true passion as of this
time) and hope that this little splurge of organized insanity will spark some
interesting conversations both inside this digest and out……
