Families that are active sports-wise, not merely as spectators, live healthier,
but also longer and more productive lives. They also tend to be more fair in
their sportsmanlike personal appraisals. I am talking about sports that
involve continuous movement, not fishing, sports that help the circulation, the
heart, the lungs. Believe it or not running helps vision directly, often
lowering the blood pressure, etc

I run the 100 yard, 200 yard, 1500 and 5000 in intervals to start off my day.

Then I run as time permits, long runs, all barefoot, as does my brother, on our
neighboring high schools' . Montville and Parsippany, rubberized tracks.

My brother, Dr. Benjamin Clarence Lane, many years ago, when he studied at
Princeton University was on the freshmen crew. Then he ran 7 1/2 miles daily.

Years later, Princeton University installed a rubberized track fronting on the
Cage. The Cage is the large Gym.

Ben who is a world-famous lecturer and writer on Nutrition and Vision, with six
graduate degrees, is one of two Americans that every two years are invited to
speak before the prestigious International Myopia Conference held in Moscow.

Ben has also lectured at the world's largest eye hospital, the Filatov
Institute in Odessa, Ukraine and leading seminars and congresses and symposia
throughout the world.

Ben has lectured on the interrelation between Nutrition and vision on his own
program, Better Vision Thru Nutrition.

Those who follow talk programs on radio are familiar with his concepts for
preventively keeping in tonus and vital.

Among Ben's favorite venues for lecturing are Copenhagen, Denmark and recently,
Amsterdam, Holland, last month, when he lectured before the International
Congress of Ophthalmology .

The people there are genuinely concerned to actively take preventative
measures to insure good health.

The Dutch bicycle and walk more than almost any other nationals.

Practically all Amsterdamians bicycle to work or just to get about.

It shows.

Our mom, Celia, at age 95 (!) is in splendid health. She accompanies Ben and
I when we go skiing at Vernon Valley in New Jersey, at Hunter Mounter in
upstate New York, at Killington and also Stowe, Vermont, on our track runs, and
climbing.

Those senior citizens who are active, like mom, are special in that they give
hope to others who might, otherwise, not, look forward to senior citizenship.

For me, the most ingratiating moment in my life was at the close of my May
28th, 1998 fourth solo concert on the main stage of Carnegie Hall, when I
stepped to the front of the stage, pointed to first tier box #55 and asked my
mother, Celia, to stand up.

I told the assembled audience, "This is my mother Celia [applause], she is 95
years old [standing applause], she was born on Wagner's birthday May 22nd
[louder applause], and mom graduated from St. Lawrence University's Brooklyn
Law School in 1926 [up until then the applause was expectedly polite and
equally loud from males and females, but after I mentioned Celia's 1926
graduation from Brooklyn Law School] the women, of all ages, screamed "Yea!
Celia!"

All in all,if you are "in the running" AGE, bringing with it EXPERIENCE, is an
asset, not a liability.

Wrong again Ancona! Don't you believe in being current with the available
information, rather than rant on about something you REALLY DO NOT KNOW,
pontificating in dialogue too immature for a child in kindergarten.

Don't you subscribe to current newspapers and magazines and journals. Or
would the real, current world trouble you!

Your information, Ancona , as always in regard to anything you mention about
me--you may know something about something-- is all out of whack. President
Roosevelt is NOT the President of the USA.

Our address is not hiawatha, but Lake hiawatha, New Jersey.

My mother Celia is amazing for a woman of 95, but she holds no office in
Valhalla Records.

She could most likely out-ski you on snow slopes.

I KNOW she could out-articule you in more than one langusge on many subjects,
including the fine arts, music, history, geography, Lawyering, OBVIOUSLY, and
many more subjects.

Do you have an older brother or sister that regularly "puts you down." You
sound in your puerile attempts at writing posts as a
person with an inferiority complex.

Get a life,Ancona!

If you MUST express yourself, read about your subject first so that you do not
reveal your profound ignorance. and your, at best microscopic understanding
of the subject you treat.

God protect Ancona, he is lost in the wilderness of his bleak existence.

Ancona often writes like a man on a promontory overllooking the Dead Sea.

Only God knows what he is up to next!

I don't know what this controversy is about, but an office manager is not an
"office holder" in the sense of a corporate officer.

The Office Manager is not the same as someone who holds an office,
which would be President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, etc.

Mr. Lane was responding to my earlier post which stated specifically that Celia
Lane was Office Manager for Valhalla Records. "Holds no office" is his term,
not mine, and a bit of verbal indirection worthy of Bill Clinton.

Good idea. I do all of the above just prior to running my daily

Only six? I, of course, have eight. I was invited to speak at the
very same conference, but didn't consider myself myopic enough.

Hmmm. Strange our paths have never crossed during my frequent guest

I have lectured extensively on "Better health through lobotomies".

With the possible exception of the Sudanese who lack even bicycles.
Perhaps this is indicative of why so many of them are starving to
death...

I'm certain it has nothing to do with the fact that the streets are
narrow and the traffic horrendous.

> Charlie, what's a "Zoloft" and would I want to have one?

"Zoloft (Sertraline HCL) is a type of antidepressant called a selective
serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, or S.S.R.I. It works by altering the
action of the neurotransmitter serotonin. It is believed that moods,
feelings, levels of vitality, and sleep depend -- at least to some
degree -- on your serotonin levels. Serotonin is associated with a
calming, and somewhat sedative, effect on people. Drugs like Zoloft or
Prozac interfere with your body's re-absorption of serotonin, which
makes it more available to brain cells and likely reduces anxiety and
depression." [This "oversimplified" explanation is from the web -- just
do a search for "Zoloft."]

The theory here is that some cases of depression are caused by a
combination of a chemical imbalance and nonorganic psychological
reasons. Therefore Zoloft is usually prescribed in connnection with
regular sessions with a therapist. As I understand it, "one" Zoloft
does nothing; the medication must be used for several weeks before it
begins to show effects on the patient's mood.

Actually, both in my personal life and in working with opera singers, I
have learned something about successful weight loss. And, as it
happens, I have two very close friends who have discussed with me their
experiences using Zoloft to control depression. The rest of the stuff I
quoted I found on the internet by searching for "zoloft."
