Alan Monk is indeed a Canadian baritone who has been singing for a number
of years. The recording you heard was probably his solo aria album recorded
on the CBC label. (The CBC is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, OUR
national radio station). He can also be heard and seen in the Zeffirelli
film of "La Traviata" in which he plays the Baron. I'm glad to hear that
this wonderful baritone is being heard internationally.

He is also excellent in the Canadian Forza telecast from 1989 - like the
Met's, not available commercially.
Sigh.

Seriously, if you want to get the quality of the voice, he's Schaunard on the 1982 Live From The Met Boheme performance with Carreras and Stratas, and he's Roucher on the 1978 recording of Chenier with Domingo and Scotto.
