Korngold "Die Tote Stadt" libretto

Can anyone point me to a book with the libretto and English translation of Korngold's "Die Tote Stadt", please? Alternatively, is the libretto available somewhere online? So far I have been unable to locate either.

There is a fairly complete German/English libretto included with the RCA
Victor World Premiere recording #7767-2-RG. Good cast, too: Carol
Neblett, Rene Kollo, Herman Prey, Benjamin Luxon, with Leinsdorf conducting.

Thanks. Prestoclassical.co.uk describes it as a "synopsis" only, which might be selling it short. There doesn't appear to be any recording with full libretto though. Is that available somewhere in print or online?

Thank you. I tracked down a second hand copy via Ebay. I hope it arrives with libretto.

Hi Martin,
I have the sonyoperahouse version and am very frustrated at not being able to get the lyrics with german translation alongside that normally come with opera cds even if it means using a supplied cdrom. Did you manage to get them enclosed with the earlier version you were getting thru e bay?
If so, is there any way You could copy them to me?

Who hasn't experienced this dozens of times over? Why should this be such a problem? Why can't the web serve up translations of any desired opera in any language spoken by opera fans? After all, there just aren't that many "important" operas (treated to complete recordings, say), and opera libretti are hardly bigger than peanuts - a few pages of plain text, for goodness sakes! Aren't there any bilingual opera fans who would like to do something wonderful and lasting for all opera fans? Is there anyone who can get such a project rolling; someone who will say, "Hey, I'll do a couple if you'll do a couple"? (I'm not bilingual, and if you were to visit my web site you'd see my "contributions to mankind" have been in other fields, such as classical guitar.)

I just bought a recording of Wolf-Ferrari's Sly which is useless to me since the booklet has just a small plot synopsis. Two CDs of sound...

By the way, it does occur to me that I have a near-complete libretto of Howard Hanson's Merry Mount. If anyone is interested, just ask. I worked it up from a pdf which never identified which character was speaking. Even so, it was a lot of work, and I'd be glad for others to derive some benefit from it.

Simple answer. The translations are copyrighted to the translator or the company that commissioned them for their recordings.

Silly me. Forgot that nobody ever does anything except to make a million. (Had the strangest dream last night about something called pikiwedia or dikiwepia or piwidikia or something.) Anyhow, I'd be glad to drop a few bucks on an opera translation and propel someone down the road to fabulous wealth, but I can't seem to find the repository. For a start, could you point me towards Sly, Die Tote Stadt, L'amico Fritz, Boccaccio... Much appreciated.

this is why I often visit used LP stores and look for old opera recordings. I don't necessarily care about the condition of the records. What I look for is included booklets for operas that I don't have librettos for, especially when they include English translations.
