In the new recording of "L'elisir d'amore"(Alagna;Gheorghiu; et al, the
part of Giannetta was sung by soprano, Elena Dan. The CD notes indicate
that"her early tragic death occurred soon after the completion of the
present recording". Does anyone have more information in regard to her
death. I've tried several search engines , but to no avail.

PS--The London recording of this most melodic opera is terrific!

Well, whatever the reason, it had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with those
gunpowder burns on Ms. Gheorghiu's hands!

This is something I actually thought about today before your post. In
_Cinderella and Company_ Alagna says that he and Gheorghiu cancelled the
Bohemes in London because her sister died. Hoelterhoff then adds that
this sister sang Gianetta in Lyon. So it would seem Elena Dan was
actually Angela Gheorghiu's sister. I don't know the cause of her death,
I'm afraid.

Elena Dan was Anglea Gheorgius sister and she died suddenly in a car
accident which is why the Alagnas suddenly cancelled a production of
Boheme at Covent Garden. Angela and her sister were one year apart and
considered themselves twins. Angela was completely destroyed by Elenas
death.
