Actually, I think that Alfano's "masterpiece" is RESURREZIONE, and SAKUNTALA
pales in comparison. There was an old RAI Broadcast of SAKUNTALA available
featuring Anna De Cavalieri, Antonio Annaloro, Plinio Clabassi - conducted by
Arturo Basile. There has also been a recent CD issue, but I'm not sure if it
was the same performance or a later RAI broadcast with a different cast.
Anyone know?

The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender,
religion,
economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL
believe that we are above average drivers.
Do a search on Sakuntala on ON, O-L or even on google.com. There was a
recording of a live performance issued a few years ago.
I find the Alfano original ending for Turandot quite satisfying. The fullest
version is used in the Antwerp Turandot video.

This is very interesting!!!! Could you give to us more information
about this video? (Brand, catalog number, interpreters, conductor,
etc.)

Note: Please forgive me for my bad English, I am trying to improve it!
I went to a performance at the Wexford Festival in Ireland. It was broadcast
on RTE and so there is bound to be a recording to be found somewhere.

Come, said the Muse,

==================
I was unfamiliar with this opera, but it is based on a marvelous verse drama
that is sadly little known.
Not much is known of Kalidasa, the Indian fifth century (?) author of the
exquisite verse drama "Shakuntala" except that his contemporaries called him
the "Bridegroom of Poetry."
Quite a testimonial, that.
Shakuntala can lay claim to being perhaps unsurpassed (as a drama by a known
author) for a thousand years! Although I'm sure there are quarters of the
world of whose drama I know nothing.
(The medieval mystery and morality plays, are, AFAIK, all of unknown
authorship).
There's a lovely translation from the Sanskrit by Monier-Williams, in which the
fair Shakuntala, the daughter of a sage and a nymph, is portrayed as a woman
with the grace and beauty of a Helen or a Cleopatra, with rather fewer
political entanglements. (But she has some mystical ones to make up for it.)
Dushyanta, the noble and handsome King of India, is her suitor.

Yes, I have a two CD set of it with Celestine Casapietra and Michele
Molese, RAI Rome, TRC 9612AB.
It is a Tryphon set, from Tryphon Enterprises, West Palm Beach, FL
USA; PO BOX 210788, FL 33421-0788, Phone (561)-793-1604.
The sound is decent, although the skilled orchestration claims for a
full professional DDD sound. A very interesting Opera.
"Rezurrezione" was recorded by Standing Room Only, together with the
complete authentic Turandot's ending.
