Huh?
Claire Watson's first husband was one Dr. Watson; her second husband was the
Munich-based American spieltenor David Thaw.

Correct on McCracken and Warfield; but Montserrat's hubby was (is) TENOR
Bernabe Marti.

Quasi no.

Shicoff's first wife was also an opera singer, and quite a good one, Judith
Haddon.
Fiorenza Cossotto is married to bass Ivo Vinco.
Soprano Sally Wolf is married to bass Kevin Langan.

Yes, bass William Warfield. They've been divorced for many years, however.

Actually, that was another tenor Giovanni Zenatello and Maria Gay.
Other more or less happy couples include Sena Jurinac and Sesto
Bruscantini; Julia Varady and Fischer-Dieskau; Toti dal Monte and Enzo
de Muro Lomanto; Mario Stabile and Gemma Bosini; Emmy Destinn and Dinh
Gilly; Bice Adami and Ferrucio Corradetti, who produced a career-singer
Iris Adami Corradetti; Roberto Stagno and Gemma Bellincioni, creators
of the leads in Cavalleria among much else, including also a daughter
who sang, Bianca Stagno Bellincioni (who possibly had more of a career
in silent films than on singing stages); Nicolai Figner and Medea Mei,
who also created a lot of roles but no children; Lillian Nordica for a
while tirelessly campaigned for an embarrassment of a tenor husband,
Zoltan Dome.

Before you buy.
Yes. When we're at it: British mezzo Anne Murray is married to tenor
Philip Langridge.

I thought this was a current list, though.
I cannot remember the name of Katarina Dalayman's husband, Thomas What?
And remember that Shicoff's first marriage was to Judith Haddon, who used to
sing very frequently at the New York City Opera back int he 70's.

But, technically, Gogorza was a recitalist and recording artist, and not
an "opera singer," since (I read somewhere) he didn't appear in staged
opera due to extreme short-sightedness. From what I've heard of him (an
out-of-print CD on Pearl, well worth searching for), he had a terrific
voice and excellent training, and could well have had a stage career, if
somebody had accorded him the assistance now given to lesser talents.

No, it was today's Met broadcast which lost its carrier for a while.

We've got them singing together in Vancouver next month as Don Giovanni
and Donna Elvira.
I don't believe Walter Berry was ever married to Claire Watson. I
believe his second marriage was to a non-singer, but I think he might
now be married to a singer. Not sure.
I THINK no one mentioned Frederica von Stade, but I don't know if her
first marriage to Peter Eklaus (spelling?) counts since I believe he
gave up his career for her.
Finally, Christa Ludwig comments on singer marriages in her memoir "In
My Own Voice." The "Marriage" section in the English version
begins: "My God, I feel sorry for all the unfortunate people married to
singers!" The section specifically about singer-marriages is
titled "Singers Inc."
Disclaimer: Yes, I am connected with CL's memoir. Unfortunately, after
working on it for so long, I am like the characters in
Bradbury's "Farenheit 451" -- I've got the thing memorized.
Regina
PS: I still should get some points for von Stade.

His name is Peter Elkus, and he didn't have much of a career to give up.

They're both Australians. You might have come across Cheryl Barker as
the dishy Mimi in that Opera Australia production of Boheme, with David
Hobson totally out of his depth as Rodolfo. I must confess I think
Peter Coleman-Wright is by far the better artist of the two, but
there's no denying Barker's Hollywood looks. She was just wonderful as
Tatiana, finishing the letter scene by just beginning to slip her dress
off her shoulder as the lights fell. Her recent Violetta in Brisbane
was disappointing on the night I attended, though I'm told she was much
better in the other performances. Coleman-Wright was the Giorgio
Germont, by the way.

"I love to sing-a, about the moon-a and the June-a and the spring-a!"
I saw something on TV a couple of years ago where the two of them
introduced opera clips from the old Ed Sullivan show. They certainly
acted like old friends. Merrill's charming Noo Yawk accent was also
evident, as when he called her "Roboita."
It is interesting to me, that in all of the interviews and articles I have
seen, I have never heard either of these two people say a bad word about the
other. How unusual is that after a quick divorce? These are very classy
people!
