I wanted to let the group know of some very sad news today from Matthew
Polenzani. I know he has many admirers and friends here and I apologize
for sending this notice out this way but it was the quickest and most
efficient way to do it.

Yesterday, Matt and Rosa lost their young daughter, Alessandra. It was
sudden and unexpected. She was their first child.

The funeral will be on Friday but they have asked for no flowers.
Instead, they would like contributions to the Montefiore Children's
Hospital in the Bronx.

This will be a really difficult time for Matt and his wife and I know
his many admirers here will want to express their love and condolences
to them at this time.

My wife and I are quite fond of Matt and the rare combination of
decency and artistry that he brings to everything that he does. He and
his wife are very special people and we cannot imagine what they are
going through at this time. We send our love and support to them and
hope that his many fans here will do the same.

Thanks,
Terry Ellsworth

As someone who has also lost a child under tragic circumstances,
Elizabeth and I would like to offer our condolences through this
medium.

It is perhaps the hardest thing to deal with. Eleven years on we still
find ourselves "dealing with it". I will have a Mass said for
Alessandra although, as a child, she will need no Intercession from me
or anyone else.

What an absolutely horrid happening to deal with...the death of one's child.
I'm dad and grand dad a number of times over...our feelings can only be
understood by a parent. We constantly worry about the well being of our
children...and when the worst possible thing happens...we are truly
dumbfounded and left asking ourselves...why?

Life can be not only unfair but horrid beyond belief. At such a time we can
only turn to our faith and pray that the Divine Plan includes a place in
paradise for this young child. Our prayers will be for the child's soul and
for the family. I simply cannot imagine anything worse than outliving our
children.
