Hello everyone,
austrian newspapers announce the dead of James King at the age of 80.
Can anyone confirm that news?
Greetings

It's about time, the old horror was brain dead for years, even before
the advent of Alzheimers. He was on of the lousiest teachers ever to
be hired by Indiana University. Getting assigned to him was a kiss of
death. JAG

I hope not...he was a great tenor..niot used enough at the Met....His
video Tote Stadt age 60) is phenomenal..a bright wonderful
voice...Virginia Zeani always speaks so well of him..as they both
taught at Bloomington.
He was not well cast in the Olivero debut Tosca..but his work ion
Frau,Lohengrin,etc..were special....Bright and clear voice...we loved
him....CH

I'm sorry to hear this.
In addition to being a fine singer, I always found something about his
appearance to be appealing - a boyish quality that often betrayed his
years.
RIP, Mr King.

BTW, JAG, you are a creep.

of them Italian. I will have to call Benedict to start canonization.

of lie you use here. come on, jaaggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg, your

A lie? Hardly......So please list the names of his fabulous students
who are presently singing....where, what and with whom. Come on, lump
of pig shit, let's have it. Five will get you ten you can't name ONE.
Jimmy had five roles that he sang well. He was a nice guy but that's
because he was too stupid to have much temperment. His wife wore the
pants in the family. Same as yours, huh?
Unfortunately, he made the same musical errors over and over, a
testiment to his stupidity. Listen to a few of his Emperor's. If you
can pull your ears out of your shit-covered ass, that is. JAG

Another of our wonderful artists has left us ;in
these last few years we have been saddened by the passing of so many
great singers, but we do realize the inevitability of it all, and, as
someone recently told me, "Live each day as it were the last!" I first
saw and heard James King in those amazing Fraus in the Met's first
season at Lincoln Center. The voice was so bright and clear. It rang out
in a beautiful lyric way,but at the same town,it possessed the cutting
power to eventually essay the more dramatic tenor roles. King's
approach was more like that of Windgassen, rather than that of the"
thicker" heldentenors.
I always remarked that the Met never really
offered King as much as they should, and I did find him rather miscast
in the Cavaradossi at Olivero's Met debut, but, this aside, he enjoyed a
superb career, mostly in the German repertory. I would heartily
recommend his magnificent singing and acting in the video of Tote
Stadt, performed at age 60.
This man surely deserves the highest praise as one of our
finest tenors, and we are saddened by his passing. However, as in the
case of so many, we do have the legacy of recordings, live and
commercial,so that we will always remember his contributions to the
vocal art.

Requiescat in
Pace.

As a former pupil of James, I am revolted to read the sick writings of
people, who have no idea what they are talking about. James was a great
man and I will tell a story, which I have never told before.

Back in 1991, I was having lunch with James in NYC. It so happened that
Giancarlo del Monaco was having lunch to, and recognised James. The
long and the short of it was that I had an audition for del Monaco the
next day. James played piano for the audition. When I was about to
leave for Germany, knowing that I did not have much money, James sent me
a check for $2000 to get me started in Germany. I paid him back the
next summer, btw. This was the measure of the man James King, my
friend, mentor and teacher.

Well well well. Thanks for yet another self-glorification post. If you were
not so self-absorbed you would know that Mr Graham Sanders has been posting
here for years. You would also know that he enjoys a major professional
career, not the church basement type of which you are so proud.
