Sex became a major weapon of the undercover
propaganda war waged by Britain's secret service on
Germany.
Top secret files on the sordid private lives of leading
Nazis were collected by the Special Operations
Executive to help it wreak havoc behind enemy lines.
And its men had no hesitation in spreading the shameful
details among the German people in a bid to shatter
their morale. Regular orgies and perversions were
common among Hitler's henchmen and whenever details
came to light from deserters, captured soldiers and
agents in the field, the information went into the SOE
files.
Documents released by the Kew Public Records Office
offer a tantalising insight into the bizarre private lives and
sexuality of some leading Nazis. One of the most
lust-crazed was Munich-based party Chief Christian
Weber who was notorious even before the war began.
Naked girls on horseback were a regular feature at his
parties. Weber's activities are outlined in a file dated
July 18, 1942, headed Adults Only.
It would have shocked many ordinary Germans who had
a Messiah-like belief in Hitler and his colleagues as the
saviours of their nation. Weber held depraved parties in
which those invited were encouraged to give full reign to
their sexual fantasies.
The sickening events of one such party were described
by a Wehrmacht lieutenant who stumbled across the
Munich bash at the beginning of the war.
The SOE sex file says: "A particular attraction was a
large roulette wheel on which a naked girl had been
strapped. Christian Weber, drunk as usual, was acting
as croupier and set the table in motion.
"The audience of mainly SS men sat ready round the
table. The gentleman opposite the girl when the wheel
stops then obliges."
Despite the lieutenant's claim that "a good time was had
by all", there was a more sinister aspect of this orgy -
the roulette wheel's terrified human centrepiece ended
the game unconscious.
Also mentioned in the report was the hated SS and
Gestapo chief Heinrich Himmler - the beast who planned
the holocaust.
The files describe the unspeakably cruel Himmler as the
protector of a fascist cult which carried out orgies in a
castle cloisters in Eastern Germany as well as other
hideouts.
It says: "The cult performs sex acts with a naked
congregation to the encouraging chanting of a high
priestess."
The priestess is named as Ursula Deinert, a leading
singer with the Berlin State Opera at the time. The files
question the accuracy of the report about Himmler but
accept that Deinert was on good terms with leading
Nazis.
Himmler also launched a human breeding programme
based on maternity homes serviced by chosen SS men
designed to create a future German elite.
Even as a young man, long before he controlled the SS,
Himmler developed his extraordinary theories with sick
breeding experiments carried out on his own chicken
farm in Bavaria.
The tyrant was the driving force behind Germany's evil
Final Solution bid to exterminate the Jews.
Himmler committed suicide in 1945 after being captured
by British Military Police.
Another senior Nazi Officer, named in the files only as
Ley, is described as a "whoring old drunk" who regularly
found girls for General Von Stulpnagel and other party
members.
Willie Bockman, a Nazi leader in East Prussia, is also
described as a "depraved homosexual" who kept a
coterie of young boys for his personal pleasure,
frequently dressing them up as girls.
While Admiral Conrad Albrecht is reported to be a
voyeur who liked to watch sex-starved sailors making
love to his mistress. According to the files she picked
men up in dockside bars and then drove with them to
the Admiral's country home.
There, after drinking schnapps, they were invited to
participate in sex sessions while the Admiral watched.
The report refers to his mistress as a woman "who
prefers to wear nothing but a transparent raincoat".
Files also refer to Dr Theodore Auer, German consul in
Casablanca during the war. He was gay and had an
affair with the son of a local Moroccan sheik. The file
notes that he was often to be found on the beach with
Arab, French and Jewish boys.
Another German officer called Breutman is accused of
sexually molesting 300 small girls "entrusted to his care
as evacuees in the Sudetenland". One 14-year-old died
after a miscarriage - though her parents were informed
she was the victim of scarlet fever.
Gay orgies are also outlined in the files, particularly of
two senior German officers in charge of propaganda in
occupied Paris.
One was described as a uniform fetishist who
possessed more than 50 tunics. The files say: "They
have a little retreat at Chateau d'Nesle outside the city
where they indulge in the most fantastic orgies. The
centre attraction is a swimming pool with black mirror
glass.
"The bathers are naked; parties take place in and out of
the water and in order to prolong the festivities, activities
are interrupted by a cold plunge now and then."
Another German senior officer named as Tienemann is
revealed as liking to flog his Polish maid with canes
while his chauffeur was having sex with her on his
instructions.
The Nazi leaders also looked after the sex lives of their
soldiers. A captured Norwegian steam ship called the
Stavanger Fjord was used as a floating brothel for
German troops for several years.
The files tell of an incident in which two drunken SS
men got a priest from a nearby prison camp and took
him to the ship. He was tied to a bed in a luxury cabin
and stripped naked "whereupon two girls performed on
the struggling pastor much to the enjoyment of the SS
men".
The Germans also used a bomber as a flying
whorehouse for senior ranks on the Russian and Balkan
fronts in 1941. Nazi chiefs were known to hand out
pornography to their men.
A separate 1942 report details the discovery of this
material on German soldiers captured in Africa which it
said: "Quite frankly would make many a virgin turn in her
grave."
Not to be outdone the SOE immediately began
producing material for German troops revealing the sex
lives of their leaders.
Sex, it seems, was as much part of Britain's wartime
armoury as tanks and Spitfires.
