Just finished watching the Met Ernani. I fiund Hvorostovsky and
Furlanetto excellent and Giordani lacking in every aspect. I can see
this man having a career in small regional theatres, but as a leading
tenor in a house like the Met, he's a bit of a joke.
Which brings me to Angela Meade as Elvira. I'm really at a loss here
because I find the voice extremely beautiful and the skill with which
Ms Meade uses it exemplary. I would play her CD's non-stop. But... she
leaves me cold. There doesn't appear to be much personality behind the
voice other than nice young woman having a success. Her acting skills
as evidenced by the Elvira performance are on a par with Giordani's,
i.e., non-existent.
Is it just me or has anyone else had a similar reaction?
