Thanks for any help. Email would be appreciated as I don't
normally read either group.

If this aging memory serves, the aria was "Signor ascolta, ascolta
signor." This is Liu's aria from Puccini's Turandot. I don't know who
actually did the singing.

It was Liu's aria "Signore, ascolta!" from Act I of Puccini's
Turandot. I don't remember if I checked the credits for who sang
it.

Yes, it is a really *nice* B natural, but otherwise The Great One
= Calaf not.
("How sweet it is!"- Lucky Luciano really is the operatic
equivalent of Jackie Gleason.)
BTW, GP set the "ce" in in that final vincero as a sixteenth-note
in 4/4 time, no fermata.
Cheers, -Rick

In the British Inspector Morse TV program, "Death of the Self" the opera
singer's voice was of Janis Kelly, with actress Frances Barber as the
opera diva. I believe the opera was Turandot and Frances Barber (as Nicky
Burgess) sang the role of Liu, as L. Victor pointed out.
FYI - Rainbow Music/Virgin Music Publishers has produced a CD with
original music of the Inspector Morse TV series, mostly composed by
Barrington Pheloung. The CD also includes the Overture from Die
Zauberflote (The Magic Flute); "O Isis and Osiris" from act II, The Magic
Flute sung by Graham Broadbent; "Laudate Dominum" by Mozart sung by Janis
Kelly; and "Senza Mamma" from Suor Angelica, Puccini, sung by Janis Kelly.
I don't know if this CD is available here in the States. My copy was sent
to me from England. Great CD, and if you're a fan of Morse. There have
been a couple of episodes of the program that deal with The Magic Flute
and the Freemasons. Morse loves opera, classical music, fine wine,
singing in the Magic Flute Chorus, and doesn't own a TV set!
Best Morse quote, "I hate exercise."
Regards to all opera lovers.
