Peter,
try www.mp3.com , they have the biggest resource of online new age
music that I know. Most artists are independent artists and you can
listen to their music, download it or order their CD's. You just need
a mp3 software to be able to listen (which you can download if you
don't have it already). There are also radio stations which can give
you some overwiev about what is there to be found.
Greetings

Oh boy, this continues to be one of my favorite topics. I listen to
streaming audio every day at work and, now that I have a cable modem,
many evenings at home as well.
Here then, in no particular order, are the sites I tune to, with
comments thrown in for good measure:
http://www.live365.com = THE place! Currently with over 30,000 (!)
streaming audio stations. The depth of New Age/Techno/Ambient/etc is
unparalleled.
http://www.spinner.com and http://www.netradio.com = Stalwarts in the
streaming audio field. Spinner has a (Windows only) desktop player that
functions much like a browser, but can be shrunk to an item in the
taskbar if desired.
http://avradio.altavista.com = Yes, those folks at what used to be the
greatest search engine on the 'Net (Google has taken that mantle) have a
pretty good site. The playlists can be a bit predictable, but nice
links to the current artist/album, especially if you're shopping...
http://www.wiredplanet.com/stations/listen.html = Some good stations at
Wired Planet, especially if you go for the "downtempo" sounds. Music
From The Hearts of Space can be heard here, too, so that's a real bonus.
http://www.starstreams.com = Musical Starstreams. What else need I say?
One small worry: the web site says their current host is shutting down.
This isn't the first, either. So the streaming audio may disappear
without notice (of course, that's happened to more than one station I've
tuned to).
http://musicsojourn.com = Home of ECHOES and Ambient Caverns, to name
just a few. Spotty performance, and a little too much talk for my
taste, but still some fine (and sometimes unheard elsewhere) music.
http://www.icecast.org = The "open source" community servers for
streaming audio. Look under "Jazz" or "Techno" for applicable music
types.
http://stations.mp3s.com/stations/electronic/ = Hey, what's wrong with
good ol' MP3.com? This is just one of the portals at this giant site
that provides a wealth of music to listen to.
Wow. This is just the tip of the iceberg! I've got a whole set of
bookmarks in my browser, and even more on my web site. But keep in
mind, as I said above, these sites can come and go on a moment's notice,
so 'caveat emptor.'
Enjoy.
