The tune is very catchy, and I'd like to acquire a copy of it; I'm hoping it's
just some traditional German song, not some Nazi dreck.
I've not seen the complete list of tracks on the Odessa File soundtrack, but
what I have seen leads me to believe that this song is not included there.
I'd appreciate if you could Cc: me if you have any clues about this, as I'm not
able to read this group very regularly. I will summarize and post any pertinent
information I get by mail directly.
Best,

Here's a link I found that has this song (a version of it anyway). I
can't read ?italian, but it appears to be a traditional Octoberfest
song.
Would it be a traditional tune called "Schwarzbraun Ist Die Haselnuss"? This
is one title on the original score, but not having seen the film for a few
years (and my LP no longer playable!) I can't remember the bits you are
taling about. Or might it have been the "Odessa Anthem" (a Lloyd Webber
original piece)? The track listing for the album is
MAIN TITLE
CHRISTMAS DREAM(Perry Como vocal)
SOLOMON TAUBERS DIARY(incorp "Music at Riga"(traditional)
MILLERS THEME(incorp "Amboss Polka" (traditional)
ODESSA ANTHEM(Vocal Version)
SCHWARZBRAUN IST DIE HASELNUSS(trad)
ODESSA ANTHEM (Orchestral Version)
MILLER JOINS THE ODESSA
CHRISTMAS DREAM(Carousel Version)
KIDNAP
ODESSA DISCOVERY (inc "Fugue")
SIGI AND MILLER
MILLER FINDS ROSCHMANN
CHRISTMAS DREAM(German Band Version)
Hope this is of some use

It you mean the song "Schwarzbraun ist die Haselnuss" than you need not
to worry: it's just a plain old folk song about someone singing a tune
to his dear girl and it's not a political song and free of any Nazi
ideology. It's available in many, many different versions, and I don't
recall which version was used in the movie.

I am made out of water. You wouldn't know it, because I have it bound
in. My friends are made out of water, too. All of them. The problem for
us is that not only do we have to walk around without being absorbed by
the ground but we also have to earn our livings.
(Jack Isidore of Seville, Calif.)
Not to mention hearing Webber trying out some of the melodic/rhythmic ideas he
would later incorporate in "Evita."
