I bought some music CD's from cdnow.com.
They seemed to have decent prices. On the first order, I had to make
a return and it went very smoothly.

I highly recommend CDNow. I have ordered from them a few times and their
service has been nothing short of excellent. I have always received my
CD's withing 3 weeks, never longer. They have a big selection at decent
prices too, and you can always keep track of the status of your order as
it's being processed day-by-day.

CD Connection is another one that has prices comparable to CDNow. I have
never ordered anything through them, but I have heard that they are very
good.

CD Europe is another one, but I have heard horror stories about them.
Things like orders never processed and no notification of unavailable
items, listing of items that they know are no longer available. Try them
at your own risk.

Also EAR/Rational Music is a smaller place but with excellent prices and
excellent personal service. There is no web site but you can get a catalog
of all currently available stuff through FTP or an automated mailer.
There is also an address where you can send mail to a real person, the
owner Dave Steinhart. He's always very helpful.

I'll put in a good word for CdNow (telnet cdnow.com). I've ordered twice
from them, and each time I had a box on my doorstep in abut three days.
They have a good selection of those "rare European" titles also, if you
know what I mean.

feedback info, and the discs arrive three or four days before you expect
them to. CDNow also has wonderful info about the releases and artists, as
well as a "lunchbox" feature that allows you to save selections for
purchase at a later date.
However, I also bought from CD World, which is cheaper across the board,
just as fast shipping-wise, but lacks the great artist/title info that
CDNow can claim. But a disc that costs, say, $13.97 @ CDNow will cost
$11.88 or even $9.97 or so @ CD World, so that swung it for me. When
you're ordering ten or so discs, the cheaper prices are significant.
Use your searcher to find the address for CD World. If you have no luck
email me and I'll get it for you.

I'll be the one to put a good word for CDEurope. They do take
_forever_, but then they're upfront about it. And basically they
have a ton of stuff that you can't get from any of the other places.
But I definitely would check with the others, esp. CDNow, first.

It's a "Bargain Finder Agent" prototype set up by the Arthur Andersen
consulting group. You enter the name of a disc, and the "agent" snoops at
about 8 different web music stores and reports the price it found at
each. Also gives some shipping information, and web links to the CD
stores in question.
I think it's a wonderful example of a very useful consumer tool.

undercut most others - I was a little leary about giving out my credit
card number to them.

handled. I decided to go with CDWorld because of their excellent prices and
so far (after two shipments of all in all three CD's) everything went
extremely well. They send almost daily updates on the handling & shipping
process and respond *very* quickly to any questions you may send them by
e-mail.

I can vouch for the fact that the CDworld folks are hard workers and have
burned a lot of midnight oil creating an excellent service. (I've even
purchased a few CDs from them.)
Disclaimer: Automatrix has been working with CDworld for a couple months
creating links between our concert calendar, Musi-Cal, and their CD store.
