Possibly the best album to get for Vince Guaraldi's "Peanuts" music is
the Charlie Brown Christmas album (not sure of the exact title). A
great collection of Peanuts music, all from the Christmas special (a
classic TV program, IMHO). It is definitely out on CD. Check the
Christmas, Movie/TV tunes, or jazz section of your local CD shop.
>There's a pretty cool album out called "Happy Anniversary Charlie Brown!"
>It has 11 tunes from the TV shows, covered by GRP artists such as
>I highly recommend this album!
I have heard this album, and although there are some good tunes on
there, I didn't like a lot of it (just my humble opinion). The CD
mentioned above is *MUCH* better, IMHO.
For a similar idea done much better, check out _Stay Awake_, which is
a collection of Disney tunes (or is that 'toons? ;-) covered by a
*wide* variety of artists. A sample: The Replacements doing "Cruella
Deville" (I even saw this in concert ... a classic), Syd Straw doing
"Blue Shadows", Los Lobos doing "I Want To Be Just Like You (The
Monkey Song)", and an absolute classic version of "Heigh Ho (The
Dwarfs' Song)" by Tom Waits, done is a really bizarre dark moody
fashion (guaranteed to give your children nightmares). Other artists
include Bill Lazwell (sp?), Ken Nordine, Nilsson (sp?), Ringo Starr,
NRBQ, Bonnie Raitt, Was(Not Was), and Yma Sumac (or is that Amy Camus?
;-).

If you are really interested in this music, I would recommend A BOY NAMED
CHARLIE BROWN soundtrack by the Vince Guaraldi trio. Just Vince, a bass, and
drums, and it KICKS! It is great! (Of course, you also get Linus and Lucy by
the original composer instead of Dave Grusin).
Of course, you have to listen to the guitar instrumental of the song played
by Schroeder during the Xmas special done by Jodie Foster's Army. And also
the release by the band in my .sig: :-} :-}
