LED ZEPPELIN'S UNTITLED FOURTH ALBUM

---------
Black Dog
---------

Hey, hey, Mama say the way you move,
Gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove.

Ah, ah child, way you shake that thing,
Gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting.

Hey, hey baby, way you walk that way,
Watch honey drip, can~t keep away.

Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh oh oh
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh oh oh

I gotta roll, can~t stand still.
Got a flamin~ heart, can~t get my fill.

Lights that shine, burning red,
Dreams of you all through my head.

Ah, ah, ah, ah,
Ah, ah, ah, ah,
Ah, ah, ah, ah,
Aaaaaaah.

Hey baby, whoa baby, pretty baby,
Darlin~ let me move ya now.

Hey baby, oh baby, pretty baby,
Darlin~ let me move ya now.

It~s been to long, for I found out,
What people mean by down and out.

Spend my money, took my car.
Startin~ tell her friends she gonna be a star.

I don~t know, what I been told,
People that woman ain~t got no soul.

Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh oh oh
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh oh oh

All I ask for, all I pray
Steady, loaded, woman gonna come my way.

Need a woman, gonna hold my hand,
Won~t tell me no lies, make me a happy man.

Ah, ah, ah, ah,
Ah, ah, ah, ah,
Ah, ah, ah, ah,
Aaaaaaah.

Rock And Roll
-------------

It~s been a long time since I Rock ~n Roll,
It~s been a long time since I did that stroll.

Ooo, let me get it back,
let me get it back,
let me get it back,
Baby where I come from.

It~s been a long time,
been a long time,
been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

Yes it has.

It~s been a long time since the book of love,
I kick out the tears of the lack of your love.

Carry me back,
Carry me back,
Carry me back,
Baby where I come from.

Oh, oh, oh

It~s been a long time,
been a long time,
been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

Aaaaaaaaoooooh.

Oh, it~s been so long since we walked in the moonlight.
Makin~ out, just can~t walk right.

Oh, yeah, open your arms,
Open your arms,
Open your arms,
Baby we look away...
Let me...

It~s been a long time,
been a long time,
been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

Yeah hey,
Yeah hey,
Yeah hey,
Yeah hey,

Ooo, yeah
Ooo, yeah

It~s been a long time,
Been a long time,
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

----------------------
The Battle of Evermore
----------------------

The Queen of Life took her vow,
And then she turned to gold.

The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom,
And walked the night alone.

Ooooh,

Dance in the dark moonlight,
Sing to the morning light.

The Dark lord rides in force tonight,
And time will tell us home.

Oh, throw down you plow and hoe,
Rest not till I go home.

Side by side we wait the night,
Of the darkest of them all.

Ooooooaaaaah,

I hear the forest asunder,
Down in the valley below.

I~m waiting for the Angels of Avalon,
Waiting for the Eastern Glow.

The apples of the valley roooow out,
The seeds of happiness.

The ground is rich from tender care,
Repay, do not forget.

Oh, no, no

Dance in the dark moonlight,
Sing to the morning light.

Apples turn to brown and black,
The tyrant~s face is red.

Oh, war is the common plight.
Pick up your swords and fight.

The sky is filled with good and bad,
Mortals never know.

Oh,now.

Oh, well, the night is long,
The beads of time have slowed,

Tye dyed on the sunrise,
Waiting for the Eastern Glow.

The pain of war cannot exceed,
The woe of aftermath,

The drums will shake the castle walls,
The ring rays are out in black.

Ride on,
Sing a derision,
Ride on,
Shoot straight to thun before

No comforters to fly the night,
The lights we face so cold.

Dance in the dark moonlight,
Sing to the morning light.

The magic moves a million gold,
To bring the balance back, bring it back.

At last the sun is shining,
The clouds of blue rolled by.

With flames from the dragon of darkness,
The sunlight blinds his eyeeeeee.

Oooh, oh,
Aaaaah, ooooh aaaaaaah.

Bring it back, bring it back, bring it back,
Bring it back, bring it back, bring it back,
Bring it back, bring it back,

Oh now, oh now, oh now,
Oh
Oh now, oh now, oh now,

Bring it back, bring it back,
Bring it back, bring it back,

Oh now, oh now, oh now,
Oh
Oh now, oh now, oh now,

Bring it, bring it, bring it, bring it,
Bring it, bring it, bring it, bring it,
Bring it, bring it, bring it, bring it...

------------------
Stairway to Heaven
------------------

There~s a lady who~s sure,
All that glitters is gold.
And she~s buying a stairway to heaven.

When she gets there she knows,
If the stores are all closed.

With a word she can get,
What she came for.

Ooooo.
Ooooo.

And She~s buying a stairway to heaven.

There~s a sign on the wall,
But she wants to be sure,
Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.

In a tree by the brook,
There~s a songbird who sings.
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.

Ooooo, it makes me wonder.
Ooooo, it makes me wonder.

There~s a feeling I get,
When I look to the west.
And my spirit is crying for leaving.

In my thoughts I have seen,
Rings of smoke through the trees.
And the voices of those who stand looking.

Ooooo, it makes me wonder.
Ooooo, it really makes me wonder.

And it~s whisper that soothes,
If we all call the tune.
And the piper will lead us to reason.

And a new day will dawn,
For those who stand long.
And the forests will echo with laughter.

Oh, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoaho.

If there~s a bustle in your hedgerow,
Don~t be alarmed now.
It~s just a spring clean for the May Queen.

Yes, there are two paths you can go by,
But in the long run.
There~s still time to change the road you~re on.

And it makes me wonder.
Oh, ho.

You~re head is hummin~ and it won~t go,
In case you don~t know.
The piper~s callin~ you to join him.

Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know,
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.
Oh, ho.

And as we wind on down the road,
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know.
Who shines white light and wants to show,
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard,
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all.
To be a rock and not to roll.

...And she~s buying a stairway to heaven.

------------------
Misty Mountain Hop
------------------

Walking in the park just the other day baby,
What do ya, what do ya think I saw?

Lots of people sitting on the grass with flowers in their headsets.
Hey, go and do what I ask ya.
And you know how it is...

I really don~t know what time it was, whoa, ho, ho.
So I asked him if I could stay awhile.

I didn~t notice but it had gotten very dark and I was really...
Really out of my mind.

Just enough of these men stepped up to me as does said ~Please, hey
would be kept~
To all get in line,
To get in line.

Ya know, they asked us to stay for tea and have some fun.
He said that his friends would all come by.

Why don~t you take a good look at yourself and describe what you see.
And baby, baby, baby, do you like it?

There you sense it, it~s there like a book on a shelf rusting.
I~m not trying to fight it.

You really don~t care if they~re coming, whoa, ho, ho.
I know that it~s all a state of mind,
Ooooooohooo.

If you go down in the streets today, baby, you~d better,
You~d better open your eyes.
Whooaooa, yeah.

Folk down there really don~t care, really don~t care, don~t care, really don~t.
Which, which way the the pressure lies.

So I decided what I~m gonna do now.
So, I~m packing my bags for the misty mountain.
Where the spirits go now.
Over the hills where the spirits fly.

Oooooohoo
Oooooohoo, hoo.

Oooooohoo
Oooooohoo, hoo.

Oooooohoo
Oooooohoo, hoo.

I really don~t know...
I really don~t know...

-----------
Four Sticks
-----------

Oh, baby, it~s crime time.
Oh, baby, I~ve got to fly.

Got to try to find a way.
Got to try to get away.
~Cause you know I got to get away from you, babe.

Oh, baby, the river~s red.
Ah, baby, in my head.

There~s a funny feeling goin~ on.
I don~t think I can hold that long.

And when the owl~s cry in the night,
Oh, baby, baby, who that grinds me into twine.

Baby, baby, baby, how do you feel?
If the rivers run dry, baby, how do you feel?

Crazed baby, I~m at rainbow~s end.
Um, baby, it~s just a damn for those who hide.

Hide the words that did survive,
And ruin dreams of me on you so, babe.

And when the owl~s cry in the night,
Oh, baby, baby, who that grinds me into twine.

Oh, baby, baby, baby, how do you feel?
If the rivers run dry, baby, how do you feel?

Ooooh.
Oh, aaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

And how do you feel?

Ooooh, yeah bring my end on.

Ooooh, yeah strong shields and love.
They can~t hold the rope of those who walk.

And the boots of those who watch.
Maybe through the roads of time so long ago.

Oooooh, yeah.
Oooooh, yeah.
Oooooh, yeah.

Iiiiiiiii,
Iiiiiiiii,
Iiiiiiiii,
Iiiiiiiii.

Ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh.

-------------------
Going to California
-------------------

Spend my days with a woman and kind,
Smoke my stuff and drank all my wine.

Made up my mind, make a new start.
Goin~ California with an aching in my heart.

Someone told me there~s a girl out there,
With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.

Took my chances on a big jet plane,
Never let them tell you that they~re all the same.

Ho, the sea was red and the sky was gray,
One I had tomorrow, could ever follow today.

Mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake.
Children of the sun begin to awake.

Watch out.
It seems like the wrath of the gods got a punch on the nose and it~s
starting to flow, I think I might be sinking.

Throw me a line if I reach you in time.
Meet you up there where the path runs straight and high.

If I~m the queen and I am the king,
They say she play~s guitar and cries and sing.

La, la, la, la.

Ride awide me in the footsteps of dawn.
Tryin~ to find a woman who~s never, never, never been born.

Standin~ on a hill in the mountains of dreams.
Tellin~ myself it~s not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

Aaah, oooh.
Aaah, oooh.
Aaah, oooh.
Aaah, oooh.

---------------------
When the Levee Breaks
---------------------

If it keeps on raining, levees gonna break.
If it keeps on raining, levees gonna break.

When the levee breaks, have no place to stay.

Mean old levee, taught me to weep and moan.
Mean old levee, taught me to weep and moan.

It~s got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home.

Oh well, oh well, oh well.
Ooooo

Don~t it make ya feel bad,
When you~re trin~ ta find your way home,
And you don~t know which way to go.

If you~re goin~ down south,
And there~s no work to do,
Then go down to Chicago.

Aaaah, aaaah, aaaah.

Cryin~ won~t help you,
Prayin~ won~t do you no good.

No, cryin~ won~t help you,
Prayin~ won~t do you no good.

When the levee breaks, mama you got to move.
Whoo, hoo.

All last night, sat on the levee and moan.
All last night, sat on the levee and moan.

Take you by my baby, and my happy home.

Oh, ho.
Aaah, aaah, aaah, ha.
Aaah, aaah, aaah, ha.

Oh, oh.

Goin~

Go to Chicago.
Go to Chicago.

Sorry babe, I can~t take you.*

Go down.
Goin~ down now.
Goin~ down.
Goin~ down now.
Goin~ down.
Goin~ down.
Go down.
Goin~ down.

Go down.
Goin~ down now.
Go down.
Goin~ down now.
Goin~ down.
Goin~ down now.
Goin~ down.

In a previous post
article 35832
lyrics to Battle of Evermore

> The drums will shake the castle walls,
> The ring rays are out in black.

I believe this should read

The ringwraiths are out in black

this is a reference to the Lord of The Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien
that Plant was a big fan. He also refers to the books directly in
"Ramble On" on Zep II.

lyrics to Stairway To Heaven

> Who shines white light and wants to show,
> How everything still turns to gold.

I realize that these are printed on the Zep IV sleave, but I still swear
that everytime I've listened to this, I've heard

How everything still turns to stone.

I'm I just immagining things or does anyone else here it more like this?
It's kinda garbled on that particular note, almost like one person is singing
Gold, and the other Stone. (This is a CD I'm talking about, not some old
copy of an album of a tape of an eightrack).

Well you are right about THAT one, the misquoted lyrics you
fired off are criminal indeed :-)

Some of them are quite humorous, though...

>Baby we look away...
>Let me... [4]

>And time will tell us home. [5]

>* One fucking good line. |

This article is already too long, so I won't type in the lyrics
for the entire album here. I will give corrections for the above,
the source of which is the _LED ZEPPELIN COMPLETE GUITAR_ book,
which was (and which may or may not still be) published by SUPERHYPE
PUBLISHING in 1975, which contains the music and lyrics for Led Zeppelins'
first six albums. Actually, one might say that it is rather INCOMPLETE,
as most of the Guitar parts are not given. I believe that this book is
still available in many music stores (but I am not certain).

1. Oh, baby, it's cryin' time;

2. I can't count the tears of a life with no love.

3. makin' vows that just can't work right.

4. baby let my love come running in.

5. And time will tell us all.

6. I hear the horses' thunder

7. The apples of the valley hold the seas of happiness,

8. tired eyes on the sunrise

9. the ringwraiths ride in black, [ a reference, of course, to the Nine ]
[ Riders of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic trilogy ]
[ _THE LORD OF THE RINGS_ ]

10. Sing as you raise your bow, shoot straighter than before.

11. No comfort has the fire at night that lights the face so cold.

12. The magic runes are writ in gold to bring the balance back.

13. And it's whispered that soon [ Come on, the lyrics to this one are on ]
[ the sleeve!!! ]

14. "Hey, boy, do you wanna score?"

15. Just then a policeman stepped up to me and asked us, said, "Please,
hey, would we care to all get in line, get in line."

16. oh, baby, baby, when the pines begin to cry. [ grinds me into twine??? ]

17. To find a queen without a king;

18. Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn.

19. [ THEY ARE ALL FUCKING GOOD LINES!!! ]

I know that this is a rather lengthy article, but as a die-hard Led Zeppelin
fan from way back, I just couldn't let the blasphemies listed above slip by
without a reply. I heartily recommend buying the book mentioned above, as
it will provide all true Led Zeppelin fans with the Good Word, and generate
some royalties for the deserving authors.

i've got several bootlegs, and it sounds just like 'gold' on all of them
i have checked. so, at least in concert it was that way, haven't listened
to the legit album recently.

it's VERY clear on a few of my bootlegs, so i think the printed lyrics
on the album are correct.
