Actually, I have both of these already (well, I only have a copy of the
Slowdive). Any other specific bands from either label? I've heard nothing
but great things about 4AD bands, but don't really know any others. Isn't
Ride on Creation, too?

I liked the "Slowdive" EP quite a bit more than "Morningrise." I just felt
like there was a little too much noise in the songs on "Morningrise." It
took away from their simple, relaxing, mellowness, IMHO.

WARNING: Even though "Just For A Day" was just released (as an import),
the local disc shop says that it will be released domestically *very* soon.
So unless it's worth it to you to pay twice as much to have the import,
wait. I've already been burned twice this way: New Fast Automatic Daffodils
and Blur. I was none too happy.

Slowdive's OK (and I *love* Ride), but how can we prattle on about
this sort of thing without mentioning My Bloody Valentine ? MBW
predated all these bands and is certainly a big influence on all of
them. (I read somewhere in _Option_ magazine that they are one of
Eno's favorite bands, if you need some validation.)

Does anybody know if the Creation singles boxed set contains
"Instrumental" by MBV ? (It uses the same Public Enemy loop as
"Justify My Love" by Madonna.) It's also available on a US
radio-station-only 12" that accompanied the release of _Isn't
Anything_.

I don't know if it is just me, but I have My Bloody Valentine's Glider
mini-cd. Although I like the song Soon, I am unable to make out any of
the lyrics. Is there another version of the song in which the words can
be heard a little bit better? Just wondering...

No, I have it too. ;-)

Nope. My Bloody Valentine purposely mumble their lyrics and keep them
down in the mix so you can't make them out. They don't _want_ people
to know what their lyrics are, and they never tell anyone. In fact,
when MTV requested the lyrics to (I think) "Feed Me With Your Kiss",
MBV refused to give them to them, even though MTV said they wouldn't
play the video without them. (Apparently this is so people aren't
saying nasty words on their network without them knowing about it.)
Does anyone know what happened with this? I know I've never seen an
MBV video on MuchMusic, Canada's video network.

About their lyrics, Kevin Shields said "We never tell anyone our lyrics.
They're really simple anyway, full of stupid words like 'and' and 'the'."

Cheers

Kevin

Along with Silverfish (hardcore feminist noise), Teenage Fan Club (Big Star
rip offs), Velvet Crush (U.S. Big Star/Byrds/Who - used to be Choo Choo Train
& also The Springfields), Moonshake(MBVish dance/ethereal noise
experimentalists), Primal Scream (60s retro jangle-poppers through to the best
live dance/rock act I've ever ever seen (last night)), & the Jazz Butcher
conspiracy.
Also Biff Bang Pow! (Label boss Alan McGee's own group, named after a song by
The Creation, and brilliant they are too), and the label has an interesting
history including bringing the world Jesus & Mary Chain and House Of Love,
plus plenty of less succesful but brilliant groups like The Loft, Razorcuts,
Revolving Paint Dream, and the incredible Felt. Up to 1987ish most of the releases were heavily 60s influenced.
Sorry, you're talking to someone with the world's largest collection of strange
Creation LPs (Simon Turner, Sand, Black Eg, Love Corporation, Times).

Because something frightening is happening - in the way that most Jesus
and Mary Chain fans had probably never heard any Velvet Underground,
and in the way that most (modern) 'rave' Primal Scream fans have probably
never heard Beach Boys 'Pet Sounds' & Rolling Stones 'Let It Bleed', there's
already people getting into all these MBV influenced groups who've never heard
Isn't Anything. In fact there's bands around who I'm sure have never heard it.
Or at least bought it, listened to it twice, put it in their 'hip LPs' section
and talk about it in the press...
Anyway I'll second the reccomendation to any Ride/Slowdive fans out there -
get those MBV records (it's a pity the early stuff isn't available anymore -
you can see a quite interesting journey in the style of the band that's lacking
in these modern acts).

NO - the track 'instrumental b' isn't on the Creation Soup LPs but it is on the
'Pensioners On Ecstacy' compilation, along with some very strange out-takes.
There's some even 'worse'/brilliant obscurities on the 'American Pensioners On
Ecstacy' comp.
I presume the Creation boxed set is the 5CD Creation Soup singles retrospective.
I've only got the 5 vinyl LPs, and at about 20/21 songs per record it's pretty
good VFM, esp as 14 of them on each one are great, and some of the turkeys are
hilarious. Wonder how Creation survived their first single as you hear 'The
Legend!' sing. There's some pretty classic songs in their like Primal Scream's
All Fall Down & Velocity Girl, Biff Bang Pow! 'Love's Going Out Of Fashion'.

The new MBV LP 'Loveless' is due for release on November 11th and features
'Soon' & 'To Here Knows When' plus some not entirely unpredictably titled
originals...
'Only Shallow','Loomer','Touched','When You Sleep'.'I Only Said','Come In Alone'
'Sometimes','Blown A Wish','What You Want'.

And the Creation press officer was wandering round the Teenage Fan Club & Primal
Scream gigs (along with Alan McGee, Jeff Barrett & half the Creation staff it
appears) here in Manchester for the past two days, while she owes me one
preview copy of the LP.....
