When I was still in college it was rumored that the Go Gos died in
a plane crash. This was when their first album was still hot. Later
people claimed it was just a publicity stunt.

They were supposed to play near Ohio State in either '83 or '84 warming
up for the Police. That concert was cancelled, and I was very disappointed.
I did get to see Belinda Carlisle warm up for Robert Palmer in '86
and she sounded great then.

Your friend has the facts a little mixed up.

Holly Johnson and his manager were scheduled to arrive in New York for final
negotiations about his break with Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Whatever he
was doing in London ran late, so when they left for Heathrow, they hit rush
hour traffic. Johnson's ticket was for Pan Am 103, but when they reached
Heathrow, they had missed the flight by about ten or fifteen minutes.

Word has it that Johnson was very sullen on the way back from the airport.
When they finally reached his (or his manager's) flat, he switched the TV
on. The manager went in the kitchen to get a glass of water. When his
manager returned, Johnson's eyes were transfixed on the screen. There on
the screen, was the flaming wreckage of a small town in Scotland, Lockerbie,
and the remnants of Pan Am Flight 103.

This is obviously a little overly melodramatic. But, the point is Holly
Johnson is very much alive and prospering with a new single: "Love Train".

Slight correction - Holly's new single is "Americanos". Here at least.
Also, a new album's out, but I've forgotten what it's called. Got pretty
good reviews, tho'.

In some article somewhere in the recent past about Thin White Rope,
the band was talking about their trip to Europe, especially Italy
and the Soviet Union. Because of delays in going home brought on by
a combination of their trip to the USSR and things in Italy being
things in Italy, they missed their original flight home. Turned out
they were booked on Flight 103.

Made a great ending for the article....
