Announcing:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

.......... n-Track (v0.98) ..........

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This program will turn your computer in to a powerful multitrack
recorder:
all you need is a full duplex soundcard, Windows 95, a microphone and
some free space on your hard drive.
There are no limitations on what you can realize with this program:
the most powerful feature is that the tracks (wave files) aren't mixed
together in a sigle wave file and then played. The mixing process is
done "on the fly": in this way you can alter the volume and pan
settings while listening to your song or even while recording.
It's also possible to use a MIDI file as a base to play with: for
example you can compose a rithm MIDI file with drum and bass, load it
with n-track and then add the other non-midi instruments, voice ecc.
You can also use your favourite wave editor to add some effects on a
particular track: you won't have no more the need of sophisticated
and very expensive multieffects devices.
You can add reverb, delay, chorus, flanging etc. via software, listen
to the overall result, restore the original track (having made a
backup copy before modifying it), make some other changes etc.
When all the tracks will have been recorded you'll be able to mix them
down to a single final wave file.
The program has no theorical limitations on the number of tracks:
with my Pentium 100, 32 megabytes of RAM and a quite slow ide hard
drive, I can easily work with 6 tracks.
Online help is provided.

A fully functional shareware version can be downloaded here:

http://www.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/sound/ntrck098.zip
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/sound/ntrck098.zip

or at any simtel mirror (/pub/simtelnet/win95/sound/ntrckxxx.zip).
("xxx" stands for version number i.e. 096).

version .99 of n-track is out and i have to say it is excellent. .99
allows you to load your sound edit to manipulate the wav track. this thing
is a real bargain for $15. i'm going to use it primarily for overdubs.
i'm using cooledit for mixdowns now and that's excellent too.

You people are really thick. The file does exist its just that the link is
slightly screwd up. If you look at the link it says ntrck098.zip whereas
the message says that the 0.99 version is out. So if you use your brains
and not your arse you will change the link to
...... ntrck099.zip and you will get your bloody file. And by the way. It's
absolutely brilliant. I have no idea how this Italian guy managed to do it.
It's excellent. It's much better than a £200 4-track.

Gordon Bennett!! Is there any reason you can't just be helpful and
tell people how to find the file? Why do you need to be an asshole
(let me translate: "arsehole") and point out how incredibly
technically saavy you are? Guess what: the Net is no longer just
for computer geeks and academics.

Sorry to unload on you, but I get tired of egotistical bastards
making responses like yours to people asking innocent questions.

Sure you've got enough hard disk space? If it runs out while recording it
showers you with error messages.

I'm new at this internet thing and I'm trying to use this program. Can

Hey, all, if you're still confused....just go to http://www.simtel.net/ and
put in "multitrack" as the search term. Easy as pie.

I have a question for anyone who knows or has the program n-Track. I
just downloaded and installed it today, and everything seems to work
fine except for one thing ....
It acts like its recording for a minute + but when I play back, it only
does 8 seconds worth??
In the Recording Controlls section, the Time reads real time
recording, but in the <<<<< DDOOPPE!!! >>>>>> (as Homer Simpson
would say!) I just figured it out.... When you replace an
existing wave file (or overdub), it only lets you record the legnth in
time that was previously used in the same filename!!!!! So I changed
the file name and voila, the son of a bitch recorded more than 8
seconds worth.

n-Track v1.1 is out:
ftp://shareware.alberts.com/Win95/ntrack10.zip

n-Track is a multitrack recorder for Windows 95 and Windows NT4.0.
It lets you record, overdub, mix wave and (new to this version) MIDI
tracks. All you need is a full-duplex sound card (i.e. capable of
simultaneous recording and playback) and some free space on your hard
drive (.wav files tend to get big).
Various wave files formats are supported and mono & stereo tracks are
can coexist in the same song.
All the audio tracks are saved as standard wave files and mixed "on
the fly" during playback. So one can alter volume, pan settings etc.
during playback, listening immediately to the results.
When all the tracks have been recorded and all the settings are
correct, it's possible to "render" all the tracks to a single wave
file, to store the song and for eventually recording it to a compact
disk using a CD-R.
Registration fee for the program is 18$.

The shareware version can be downloaded at this address:
ftp://shareware.alberts.com/Win95/ntrack10.zip

n-Track web site (new):
http://authors.alberts.com/AuthorPages/00013881/ntrack.htm

Flavio Antonioli.
