alt.rock-n-roll.classic is an unmoderated newsgroup which was proposed
to alt.config on 13 October. After much fighting with a certain news
admin, it was finally newgrouped on 12 November. So here we are.
If you are reading this in another newsgroup and do not currently have
alt.rock-n-roll.classic in the active file at your site, please ask
your news admin that this be done. Oftentimes, this is a key factor
in determining the propagation of a newsgroup. As well, the efforts
undertaken by the aforementioned certain news admin may have already
had effects on the propagation of this newsgroup, so your voice is
crucial in seeing that this newsgroup survives and thrives.
Now, onto the information about this newsgroup. Rather than try to
write something up from scratch, I will simply include the texts from
the original proposal and the newgroup message.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
alt.rock-n-roll.classic (originally proposed October 1990)
-----------------------
This is a group that I've proposed to here three times before, but was
never put into place due to my aforementioned lack of time to follow-up
on the proposals I made. This newsgroup would be for discussing classic
rock, both as a separate genre of music and as a marketing concept for
radio and album sales. Undoubtedly, everyone's definition of classic
rock is different, but my persoal definition of such would be any album-
oriented rock 'n roll recorded between 1967 and 1982. Either discussing
the music and artists involved itself, or discussing the packaging of
the music in the 1990's is fair game in this group.
In addition to this group being proposed to here before in alt.config,
the idea of a classic rock newsgroup was proposed by someone else before
as a mainstream group in news.groups. I participated in that thread,
lending my views, but the proposal didn't go anywhere in there. Being
that items which are rejected from the mainstream, but still have merit
for discussion, can and should be accomodated in alt.*, I would offer my
recommendation for this group to be placed in alt.*. In addition, the
nature and volume of traffic in alt.rock-n-roll at various times related
to "classic rock" (to the greater degree, in terms of the music itself,
and to the lesser degree, the marketing of it) has given me indications
that there is a justification for this group.

alt.rock-n-roll.classic is an unmoderated newsgroup which was proposed
to alt.config on 4 seperate occasions, beginning in October of 1990 and
most recently on 13 October of this year. There were no substantial
objections raised as to its creation, so with that in mind, this
newgroup is being issued for its creation. For your newsgroups file:
alt.rock-n-roll.classic Classic rock, both the music and its marketing
alt.rock-n-roll classic is a newsgroup for discussing classic rock, both
as a separate genre of music and as a marketing concept for radio and
album sales. In general, classic rock is defined as album-oriented rock
recorded between the late 1960's and early 1980's, although the exact
meaning of the term does vary wildly. Either discussing the music and
artists involved itself, or discussing the packaging of the music in the
1990's is fair game in this group.
This newgroup is being issued by the news admin here in the interest of
seeing propagation at those sites which only honor newgroups issued by
site admins. However, queries for information should be directed to the
proposer of the group, Sean Ryan <as...@acad3.alaska.edu>.

I am archiving this newsgroup, and will continue to do so until it
becomes too much of a burden on my time/resources/disk space/whatever
else. However, don't expect me to become a regular participant until
I am able to get my own feed of the newsgroup.
