Can anyone out there tell me if there is such a thing as a Mellencamp
discography? I am trying to figure out what his first album was: I think it
was "John Cougar", but I am not certain. I believe that "Nothing Matters and
What if it Did" was his first "success".

Thanks,

There is in fact an official discography at:
http://www.polygram.com/mercury/artists/mellencamp_john

There are two albums listed prior to "John Cougar":
"A Biography" released 1978 as "Johnny Cougar" (which is the oldes one
in my collection)
and
"Chestnut Street Incident" (1976)
However I've got an album named "The Kid Inside" which was released
1982, the same year as American Fool. In the official discography it's
also listed between "American Fool" and "Uh-Huh". It was not released on
Riva Records, John's official label at that time and it doen't indicate
any recording date. But if you get the chance to listen to it you might
find that this is definitely MUCH older than "American Fool" and in my
opinion even older than "A Biography".
Anyway let's stick to the official fact that "Chestnut Street Incident"
is the first album released by J.M. (even if it might not be the first
one he recorded)

cheers
