> Does anyone have a Sigue Sigue Sputnik discography?
I do. It's nowhere near complete (lacking mostly in 7" singles and the
DRESS FOR EXCESS 12"s) but I'll email you a copy. If anyone else out
there likes sSs and can help fill in holes, let me know and I'll send you
a copy too.

I'm sure I am missing a lot of the single re-mixes and stuff, but that is
basically the informal history of Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

Does anyone have this MTV stint on videotape? I'd love to see this again.

sSs also pays extensive homage to A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, both in the music and
on album covers, promo posters ... the list goes on :-).
Sputnik is perhaps the only group to which you could accuse them of "all
style, no substance" and have them take it as a compliment :-). I've
always respected their blatant stabs at the music industry, advertising,
media, and themselves, while putting out quite listenable (if not terribly
musically inventive) high-tech tunes. As the SputBoys say, "A sense of
humour is always essential!"

Actually, "live" would be stretching the description somewhat. They (in
typical sSs style) mimed to tapes at the early shows. I'm sure I heard
somewhere that *everything* was on the tape, not just backing tracks. They
managed to cause quite a controversy by doing this (I've a feeling there was
a riot at one show because of this. Anyone know for sure?). They certainly
caused a riot at either their Glasgow or Edinburgh show by saying some rather
unpleasant things about Scots - not a wise move.
Still, they were fun and it's been a few years since anything as colourful and,
let's face it, ridiculous as the Sputniks has hit the UK music scene.

If anyone does buy it (it's on Receiver Records, BTW) can they post a review?
You sholdn't belive everything that you "heard somewhere". Did you ever see
Sigue Sigue Sputnik? I did, and I can tell you for a FACT that they did not
mime. As Tony James said on Wogan, why would they spend 5 years learning to
play their instruments and then mime to backing tapes.
And what do you meen by early shows? They where playing the college circuit
long before Love Missile F1-11 came out.
David, in an I was there stylie
Did I say that I believed it? I said that I heard it, hence the phrase "I heard
somewhere that". Dead giveaway. You want perhaps I should quote references in
future? Or maybe "I heard somewhere that but this shouldn't be taken as fact
because you can't believe everything you hear"?
>And what do you meen by early shows? They where playing the college circuit
>long before Love Missile F1-11 came out.
This would be just about the time of Love Missile F1-11 when the hype was at
its peak. Its quite possible that the miming story was part of the media circus
that was surrounding the group at the time. As I said, I wasn't stating this
information as fact, just speculation. If we were to require that every posting
in this newsgroup be certified true by someone who "was there" we'd solve all
these arguments about excessive volume of news in one fell swoop.
The piece about the near riot at the Scottish gig is, however, true. A friend
of mine was planning to go and called off at the last minute because of stories
of violence etc at shows in England (I guess you want me to say that these
were only rumours since I can't provide a signed statement by Tony James) and
was glad afterwards that he hadn't since things turned really nasty at the
show. I can't remember the exact phrase Degville shouted at the audience but
it didn't go down very well.
>David, in an I was there stylie
Al, in an "I wasn't there but I don't see why that should prevent me from
posting on the subject" stylie (whatever that is).
I don't have a discography on hand, but I have noticed one missing from
other peoples lists:
Sputnik - The First Generation (c) 1990 Jungle Records
Its got 11 tracks, the first 7 are remixes of old songs, and four new ones.
Ultra Violence, Krush Groove Girls, Rockajet Baby, and a cover of
Rebel Rebel.
PS. If anyone has any sSs stuff they want to sell, tshirts, posters,
singles, video, etc. Please email!!!!!
