According to the response of my review of her latest album tells
me that I am the only Gianna Nannini fan in this newsgroup. But
despite this tragic fact I am not giving up talking about her.

This night she played at the Concert Hall here in Stockholm.
This is probably the best venue in town for many rock acts.
Comfortable seats and good accoustics. Not too big, 2500 or
so when full. But it is disputable whether it the place for
someone like Gianna, who last time I saw really gave all on
stage and eventually had the house standing in their seats.
No, Gianna is the one I would like to see when I'm fighting
to keep the balance just in front of the stage.

Anyway, this year's show wasn't as hot as the one two years ago.
I think one reason was the audience. There were some young
people, some like me, but you also saw people over 50 -and
they weren't there just to escort their children. And it seemed
like the more stiff people - to which I almost belong - had taken
the majority of the front row seats, while the real enthusiasts
were up on the balconies. (It was about the same two years ago.)
Well, she had the house standing up, but this time not until
the first encore.

The show was good although not exceptional. Her music is fairly
simple pop/rock but often with very sensual, not to say erotical
lyrics. (All in Italian.) The song selection was focused on the
new album "Scandalo", not surprisingly. (11 songs of 12.) More
surprising was that she played none of the songs from the predecessor,
"Malefemina", which has quite a few good numbers. Some of the of songs
were fairly similar to the album, whereas other were prolonged with
instrumental parts (very good in "Spiriti amanti" and "Fiori di veleno")
or attempts to audience participation. (We were not very good at
this point, shame, shame.)

Gianna mainly sings, but she played some guitar and violin (not very
good) and had piano wired down for a couple of chords in one song.
The rest of the band was good, although I missed Marco Colombo on
guitar. She gave quite much focus to the percussionist Franco
Faraldo, who was a man on 35-40 who like nothing like a rock star.

Anyway, even if was not a fantastic show, I definitely recommend
seeing her. And listening to her.

PS I vaguely recognized one of the songs in the encore as something
else, but it was not until I read a review in of the papers here,
I learnt what it was. Janis Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee", and,
yes, Gianna made this one in Italian too.

No, by no means! Though for some reason it is a countryman of yours
who steps forward as another Gianna fan. I think she's hot stuff. I
first became aware of her through the German live 'Rock Palast' TV shows
that appeared here a few years ago. I was captivated by her
performance on that huge stage as conveyed by the small TV screen. She
sang e.g. 'Latin Lover' with immense energy and enthusiasm, not only
conveying more sexual bounce to the ounce than a score of standard
chorus girl- type singers, but conveying irresistably a musical mood
and beat of an exhilarating kind.
