So if you win this contest with our help, will you share your prize with us?
Well ... I can't answer your contest questions, but as for the general
question in the subject line, my favorite version (other than the
original, of course), is a ranchera version by Mingo Saldivar y sus
Quatros Espadas. The original album on the local San Antonio label had no
title, but he's got an album out on Rounder with a re-recorded version
(lyrics in Spanish and English instead of Spanish only).

Nothing like that, but Frank Zappa and "The best band you never heard in

Teemu
Wall of Voodoo. Johnny Cash would not approve.

To those who answered Bob's query -- you should
know that by merely answering those 5 questions yourself and 6
qualifier questions, and postmarking it before Bob, you could won
$200 in Tower Records Gift Certificates.
Ditto for the classical/opera questions he posted.
And he may win the whole $1000 plus stereo system, since he's posted quite a
bit of the contest in various places.
Is this fair?

that's 7.

i've posted *11* of the questions. out of 125, plus the qualifiers.
the first line says "i'm entering a contest". and, as you pointed
out, it really is for a contest.
thanks for verifying that i'm honest and up front about what i'm doing.

oh, one other thing. the tie breaker is NOT postmarked (the first
tie breaker), but total points.
so, if i nswer JUST those 5 questions, and zip it in, first, i have no
chance in hell to win ANYTHING.

Some of us couldn't give a shit. (We're too busy trying to find the hidden
silver Jaguar sticker to paste on our Publisher's Clearing House entry).
He said it's for a contest he's entering. I knew it was for a contest he
was entering. He's using every research resource available to him. He's
playing the game by the rules. More power to him.
And may I add that you benefit just as much as he does by all the answers
posted to the net? Or are you not going to use them yourself?
Funny thing about Bob; after I posted my answer (composer Philip Glass
recorded a version of David Bowie's 1977 rock album "Low", for any of you
who missed it and are stumped in the classical part of the quiz) he offered
to help me with any questions that I couldn't get. Very sportsmanlike
conduct, if you ask me. More so than whining "Is this fair?" at every
oppurtunity. I'm not taking the quiz, but I appreciated the offer.
Let me know if you need any help, Glenn. I'm not interested in the prizes,
but seeing if I know some of the answers might be kind of fun. If I helped
Bob, I can help you too. It's only fair, after all.

Yes, he is. There is nothing in the rules that says one cannot do
what he is doing. As I have said, I don't think it's entirely "fair",
but that's my problem, I guess. My standards are different -- I take
this "test" every year because it's fun and I like to see how I do
against others. I guess "others" now includes the INTERNET as a
whole. Tough competition.
: And may I add that you benefit just as much as he does by all the answers

Actually, I already had all of the posted answers. Really.

Yes, it is. Not "Funny", but appropriate. So maybe I would have reacted
differently if he had originally said "Anyone want to trade some
answers on the Pulse Contest"? Instead, he chose to post two entire
categories of questions, on the day the contest began, with no
indication that he was willing to share what he gained. The "part 1"
or whatever in his first header indicated other postings would follow.
I felt it necessary to speak up ("whine" as you said) when I did.

Thanks for the offer. At this point, I'm still
enjoying the process of searching them out the hard way. See,
it *is* kind of fun. We'll see in three weeks.

I think Wall of Voodoo or the lead singer as a soloist have done a cover of
this song.
I missed the original question, but if this is about `Ring of fire' by
Johnny Cash, then Frank Zappa has recorded a cover of the song on `The
best band you never heard in your life'.
