Hi, I recently saw the movie "Pump Up the Volume", and while I won't comment
on the movie, I did like the soundtrack. I looked at the credits for who sang
"Everybody Knows". I thought it said, Leonard Cohen, and it certainly sounded
like his voice. But in music catalogs (BMG, Columbia), the song is attributed
to Concrete Blond.

Can anybody answer who gets credit for the song? Any other information would
be appreciated, and where I can find a copy of it (besides the soundtrack ;-)

thanks, jeff

I heard of a song with the same name, and I just LOVE it... but I never
know who is the singer for the song, but as far as I can tell, it's a
female singer... Can something please clarify that for me, that is,
how many different 'Everybody Knows' are there?

Thanks

As far as I know, the version on the movie soundtrack is by Concrete
Blonde. It is originally a L.C. song, however, and his original
version can be found on his album _I'm Your Man_, an absolutely
stupendous piece of work.

The movie soundtrack does have the Concrete Blonde version of "Everybody
Knows", but within the film itself, Leonard Cohen does do the version played
in the background as Christian Slater is busy assembling his place of
broadcast (or whatever was going on when the song was being played :)
I can't say for sure, but I don't ever recall even hearing Concrete Blonde's
version in the film, which sort of makes me wonder why they didn't use
Cohen's on the soundtrack.

Most of the time in the movie it is Leonard Cohen's version of "Everybody
Knows" availible on his 1988 album "I'm Your Man" (a very good album) but
when they are in the jeep towards the end of the movie they play a small
part of the Concrete Blonde version of the song. "Everybody Knows" was
written by Leonard Cohen.

As far as I know, Leonard Cohen wrote and recorded the original, Concrete
Blonde's version was on the Pump up the Volume soundtrack, and the Washington
Squares also recorded a version.

Leonard Cohen wrote it; it appears on his album "I'm Your Man."
Concrete Blonde covered it a couple of years ago; their version
appears on the "Pump up the Volume" soundtrack.

I don't know if Leonard Cohen released a song by the same name or not, but
Concrete Blond released a song called "Everybody Knows" on an album called
"Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man." I think that the album only had 4 other songs
on it.

Of course he has. In 1988 Leonard Cohen recorded for CBS Records a record
"I'm Your Man" where "Everybody Knows" appears. The song was written
by Leonard Cohen and Sharon Robinson.

I have not seen the movie but I have heard both versions of the song.
They are so different that if you thought this was Cohen, it was him.

Do you know what you're talking about???? "Ghost of a Texas Ladies' Man" was on the album _Walking in London_, which was a full album with ten songs. "Every-body Knows" was released on the _Pump Up the Volume_ soundtrack, although the
Leonard Cohen version was played in the movie. "E.K." does NOT appear on
_Walking in London_, or any other Concrete Blonde album for that fact... try again.

Do you know what you're talking about? Ghost of a Texas Ladies man was a
4-song EP and yes, it did contain the Cohen tune EVERYBODY KNOWS. It was also

on the Pump up the Volume soundtrack.
